Chapter 136 Elara Faints Again
Third–person POV:
No one answered.
Every eye in the room dropped, settling on the scraps of silk scattered across the
Sunset. Ceramic jar. Roses.
And the name “Shane Green,” torn cleanly in half.
“So…
the painting… was real?” someone asked, voice trembling.
“An original … torn to pieces?”
“What a waste … what a terrible waste…”
The color drained from Jenna’s face–from flushed pink to chalk white.
She opened her mouth but couldn’t make a sound.
Just then, a low voice came from the doorway.
“What was torn?”
Every head turned at once.
Samuel stood at the threshold where light met shadow.

carpet.
His gaze went to Laila first–a quick head–to–toe sweep, the way an Alpha checks that his own are unharmed. Then it shifted, moving across the painting scraps on the floor, past Jenna’s frozen silhouette, past Estelle’s eyes that had narrowed to slits.
Morgana opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to answer.
Estelle’s cold stare cut across.
Morgana swallowed the words back down.
Fine. Bite it back and keep the peace.
Samuel didn’t press Morgana.

He simply walked to Laila’s side and stopped half a step away.
Laila looked up at him, voice flat, like she was reporting the weather.

“This painting, White Jar Roses, was my birthday gift for Luna Estelle. Mrs. Enclaw identific as a forgery.”
She paused.
“Jenna tore it apart.”
Samuel lowered his eyes to the scraps on the floor.
He didn’t speak right away.
After a moment, he bent down and picked up a single fragment from the red carpet.
He picked the fragment that depicted the bottom of the jar, and half a drooping rose.
He looked at it for a long time.
Then he straightened up and turned to Elara.
“Mrs. Enclaw.
“You are, as always, spectacularly blind.”
Elara’s face–already a sickly mix of green and white–looked like it had just been slapped.
“I … I…” Her lips trembled violently. “I didn’t know…”
“Didn’t know?”
Somewhere in the crowd, someone snorted.
“She sure knew plenty a minute ago when she was playing art expert
“Exactly. She probably said it was fake on purpose, just to humiliate Laila.”
“And the result? She got an actual Shane original ripped to shreds–a painting that was only displayed at the royal gallery for three days.
“Tsk, tsk how embarrassing…”
“If that were me, I’d be looking for a hole in the ground to crawl into.”

Never seen that mask–the one she always wore so perfectly–crack open with such an ugly, jagged split.
Oh God.
That felt so good.

But right now, hearing them whisper about “General Conlay would consider remarrying,” and “Silvermoon Pack’s inheritance rights,” and “our pack’s Beta still doesn’t have a mate.”
She just felt irritated.
Like a hundred claws were scratching at her heart.
Do any of those people even deserve Laila? Damn it!
Then, she heard herself speak.
Louder and more urgent than she’d intended–the words practically launched out of her throat.
“Stop fighting over her–Laila belongs to Samuel! They’re going to be mates!”
