My Alpha Wants Two Lunas? I'M Done (Laila and Holt) novel Chapter 15

Chapter 15 Her Fortune Must Stay

Laila’s POV:

The next day at noon, the Elder Council meeting was about to begin..

Pearl grabbed my hand and asked worriedly, “Ms. Conlay, everything will go smoothly, right?”

“Yes.” I gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. Holt won’t take my money. Just stay here and finish packing. Once the mate bond is dissolved, I’ll come back for you and we’ll leave together.”

“Alright, Ms. Conlay. I’ll be waiting for you!”

Pearl nodded firmly.

I turned and headed toward the Elder Council hall on the west side.

The sun was bright along the way, and the air carried a sweet, fresh scent. I suddenly remembered that when I was little, I had visited the Ironclaw Pack with my father. We had run into Holt back then. He was only 12 years old, but already a promising young warrior

My father had even praised him, saying he had good character and that, if he k might one day become a fine general.

Now he had indeed become a general, but…

I shook my head, refusing to dwell on it any longer, and quickened my pace toward the hall.

When I reached the entrance, I saw Holt holding a letter, his expression stunned and disbelieving.

I glanced down at it and immediately saw what it said.

Make sure to keep half of Laila’s fortune.

It was signed by Maris.

“General Duffy really does have my best interests at heart. She’s even letting me keep half of my fortune.”

I couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.

Holt snapped out of his daze, his face flushing red. He crumpled the letter and shoved it into his pocket.

“No, that’s not it! Maris would never take your money! She’s nothing like you. Her dream is to make life better for every she–wolf in the world. Including you. She wants to protect you too!”

“Is that so?”

I stared straight into his eyes. “Then after the mate bond is dissolved, you’ll let me leave with all of my assets? You won’t send soldiers to stop me?”

Elara let out a cold laugh. “And what exactly do you mean by that? Maris was supposed to come in as the second Luna, which would have ranked her below Laila. The way you’re talking, you’d think we’ve been bullying her. Have we bullied her?

She looked at me, her face a mask of wounded righteousness. “Laila, ask yourself. Since you married into this family, have we ever cursed you or hit you? Have I ever looked down on you for being an Omega?”

I slowly shook my head. “No.”

“Then why would you try to kill me? Just because you were jealous of Maris becoming second Luna, you stopped Dr. Sagewood from treating me. You wanted me dead! A she–wolf as vicious as you … are we wrong to throw you out of the Ironclaw Pack?”

Tobias spoke up, “Hold on. You’re saying she tried to kill you, but every pack in the area knows she practically lived in your room this past year, caring for you day and night, tending to your every need. How could she possibly want you dead?”

Elara sneered. “That’s right. I used to think she was a dutiful, well–behaved girl too. But the moment she heard Maris was becoming second Luna, she cut off my medicine. She went to the palace to beg His Majesty to revoke the marriage. And worse, she made sure Dr. Sagewood would never sell me Snowpetal Pills again! Without that medicine, I’ll die. How is that not attempted murder?”

Tobias was momentarily at a loss for words.

“Enough of this nonsense. Let me be clear. I consent to dissolving the mate bond wi Holt!”

I looked at Elara, aching to leave this disgusting place as soon as possible. “I just question. My assets that I brought into this marriage…”

past

Elara coughed and said, “We won’t take your money. But since you did care for me this year, I know that an Omega like you living alone with that much wealth isn’t safe. So we’ll hold onto 70% of it for safekeeping. You can take the rest.”
