Chapter 303 A Disgusting Smell

Third–person POV:

Morgana took Laila to the study first.

No one was there.

Next, they checked the training grounds in the back.

Still, no one was there.

Morgana stomped her foot and clenched her teeth. “Fine. Let’s go to his bedroom.”

If he wasn’t in either place, he was probably asleep.

Yesterday, she noticed Samuel didn’t seem quite right.

Because of that, she had secretly added a high–grade restorative to his water to help him recover mentally.

She was so thoughtful!

Morgana walked along, swaying her head happily, while Laila had no idea why she seemed so happy.

In her sea of consciousness, Nita lazily rolled over. “She looks like an idiot.”

“Don’t say that,” Laila replied mentally. Then after a moment, she added, “She’s just… innocent and carefree.”

“Innocent and carefree?” Nita scoffed. “Did you learn that description from Morgana?”

As they reached the bedroom door, Laila suddenly stopped.

Her expression changed.

The air was thick with the scent of post–mating pheromones.

Both male and female.

It smelled like someone had knocked over a whole bottle of perfume–thick and sickly sweet.

“Morgana, I’ll go in first.”

Laila reached out and stopped her.

Morgana hadn’t awakened her wolf spirit yet, so she couldn’t smell anything. She thought Laila was just trying to get ahead and impress Samuel, so she rolled her eyes. “Oh, now you suddenly want to try hard-”

Before she could finish, she ducked her head, trying to dash past.

Laila grabbed the back of her collar and lifted her up with ease.

“Something’s wrong. I’ll go in first. You wait outside. Don’t come in unless I call you.”

“This is Samuel’s bedroom!” Morgana kicked her legs in the air. “The safest place in the whole kingdom! How could there be any danger?”

Laila didn’t let go.

Morgana struggled for a few more seconds until she finally noticed the look in Laila’s eyes.

She pouted, unwilling and annoyed. “Fine. I’ll wait here.”

“Swear it by the Moon.”

Laila just stared at her.

Morgana took a deep breath, her teeth clenched. “Fine. I swear by the Moon Goddess. If you don’t call me, I won’t go in. Happy

Laila let go.

She turned and stood in front of the bedroom door for a second.

Then she pushed it open without hesitation.

The room was quiet. The scent was even stronger now–so strong it made her nauseous.

But no one was inside.

No Samuel. No naked woman either.

Laila frowned.

A moment later, she heard Morgana’s footsteps. Since there was nothing inappropriate inside, she didn’t stop her.

After Morgana came in, she caught the scent, too.

She pinched her nose. “By the Moon! What is that smell? It’s disgusting.”

Laila said nothing.

Morgana looked around again. Seeing no one, she got even more confused.

“Weird. He’s not here either. So where did Samuel go? He promised he’d come to my party.”

“Let’s just wait,” Laila said quietly, “Maybe he’ll show up soon.”

“Okay.”

But even after the party ended, Samuel never appeared.

Some people asked about him. Others whispered. Laila had Morgana tell everyone that Samuel was busy with important business.

Morgana was actually pretty obedient when things got serious.

She didn’t know what was going on, but she understood that if Samuel had vanished for this long, it must be something serious.

Still, it made her really sad.

After Laila returned to Silvermoon Pack, she couldn’t stop worrying about Samuel.

And with that strange smell from the bedroom stuck in her mind, she couldn’t sleep.

The scent in the room was complicated. It threw off her judgment. She couldn’t tell if any of it belonged to Samuel.

The female scent felt kind of familiar, but it was mixed with a strange fragrance she couldn’t quite place.

I’ll just have to ask him later. He will show up eventually.

Samuel lay inside an ice coffin, his eyes closed.

Sreer stood next to him, covered in sweat, her face full of worry.

She’d rushed over from Moonlight Academy as soon as she got the message.

Luke had told her that Samuel’s curse had suddenly developed new symptoms, the same symptoms as the last time he drank Moonshade Tear. That was why he had to stay in the ice coffin to suppress it.

She didn’t know whether the curse had worsened or if there was some hidden side effect of Moonshade Tear no one knew about.
