Back then, after Terrence died in battle, Victoria was completely heartbroken. She even told Lorena that she would never marry again. Because of that, Lorena gave her all of Terrence’s death benefits, a total of 500,000.

She still had some money of her own, but most of it was tied up in investments. Right now, the only money she could freely use was the death benefits.

Earlier, she had already spent 100,000 dollars for Holt.

And now, she had spent another 200,000 on a necklace.

The more she thought about it, the worse she felt about it. Tears kept falling from her eyes.

Holt insisted. “But I still need her help…

“Oh, come on, Holt. Do you really think she would still help us?” Elara laughed coldly. “No way. Even if we were dying, she wouldn’t help. She’s just a cold–hearted bitch.”

“Mom! Don’t talk about Laila like that!” Holt snapped.

“Why not? I’m telling the truth. Didn’t she say she would help with Freya’s situation? It’s been days, and we haven’t heard anything back. Obviously, she was just lying to you.”

Elara waved her hand impatiently. “Enough. Go do whatever you need to do. Just remember what I said.”

The wolf healer had warned them before that Elara couldn’t get angry, or her condition would worsen. Because of that, Holt usually listened to her.

Seeing how firm she was, he stopped arguing with her.

Tired, he returned to his room. He wanted some water, but the glass was empty.

He called for Victoria a few times, but there was no answer. So he picked up the glass and went outside to get water. When he walked into the yard, he saw Victoria squatting on the ground, staring blankly at two cottontails. She had bought them from the market a few days ago, one male and one female.

Her eyes were red, like she had been crying.

Holt paused for a moment, but only for a second before continuing forward.
