Third–person POV:

The people present were a little surprised, but Terrence had a rough idea of what this was about. Victoria was probably serious about breaking the mate bond with Holt.

He had also been looking into the assassination attempt on Maris, so he nodded. “Alright. We’ll talk in my study”

Lorena asked, uneasy, “Did something happen?”

Jillian smiled. “Nothing serious. Terrence just got back from Vagen. I wanted to ask about things over there. It’s not something / can really ask anyone else, so I came to him.”

She left her sentence hanging on purpose, making it sound like she wanted to ask about Blake.

As his sister, that would be natural.

Lorena caught on and smiled. “Then go ahead.”

Terrence’s study was simple. A large black desk, a matching chair, and two tall bookcases filled with books. A few leather harnesses hung on the wall, and a hunting spear stood in the corner.

Terrence had nothing to hide. “She did. She said assassins came to the den not long ago and that two of her maids were killed. I’ve been looking into it and found some leads. The target was Maris.

Jillian didn’t follow that thread. She looked straight at him. “Did she tell you she wants to leave Alpha Holt and be with you?”

“She did.”

“And are you planning to get back together with her?”

Terrence was silent for a long moment before he finally looked up, a trace of helplessness in his eyes. “At first, I thought I owed her. If things didn’t work out between her and Holt and she came back to me, then I should take responsibility But… I found out some things later. Now I’m conflicted. I believe you’re here to tell me the rest, aren’t you?”

Jillian froze. “You already know? What do you know?”

Terrence met her gaze. Some things were hard to say out loud. It touched on a man’s pride, and he didn’t know how to put it into words.

“You know everything?” Jillian asked carefully, reading his expression.

“I don’t know if it’s everything.” Terrence took a breath and decided to ask directly. “After I left for war, did she… get involved with my student, Kevin? Did they exchange something as a token?”
