My Second Chance Mate is a Barbarian (Sera and Fenris) novel Chapter 124

Sera

She went completely still. Staring blankly at the wall, it looked exactly like Mina had just traveled back in time.

I didn't move. I didn't reach out to touch her. I just sat there and stared, not knowing exactly how to react to the sudden, heavy shift in the room. Slow, silent tears started to well in Mina's eyes, catching the morning light. My heart physically ached watching her. My breathing quickened.

"Mina," I called softly, shifting closer to her on the mattress.

Mina exhaled a shaky breath and shook her head, snapping out of the trance.

"I was six years old when she died," Mina said. Her shoulders began to shake visibly. "Growing up, my mother had absolutely hated how the Northerners sounded. She hated their barbaric ways. She hated their harsh, guttural accents. So she did everything in her power to preserve mine. She taught me every single day. She only spoke to me in the Southern tongue."

I nodded slowly. That was why. When I had first arrived in the North, I immediately noticed that Mina's accent sounded cleaner, sharper, completely unlike the rough bark of the Ironmaw wolves. Now it made perfect sense.

"The day she died," Mina continued, her voice dropping to a hollow whisper, "I was going to her quarters for one of our daily reading lectures."

Mina stopped abruptly and let out a dry, humorless chuckle. "It's funny. I felt her absence in the air before I even realized she was gone. I was running down the hall to see her, and it felt like I was racing against a clock. I didn't understand that cold feeling in my stomach until I walked into her bathing chamber."

The air in the room seemed to drop ten degrees. The memory didn't sound like a distant story; it felt like it was currently happening right in front of us.

"I walked in, and I saw her in the bath," Mina said, her words coming out fast and flat. "The water was entirely pink with blood. Her eyes were wide open, staring right at the ceiling. From the corners of her mouth, thick, dark blood was spilling down her chin. Her eyes were completely red. The vessels had popped, and blood was leaking out of the corners like she was crying scarlet tears. Her nose was bleeding. Every single hole in her body leaked blood. I looked down into the water, and I saw her pussy leaking thick, heavy tears of ruined flesh directly into the bath."
