Chapter 518: What They Need From Her

"Do you want to see them first?"

Silence settled between the two men as they held each other’s gaze. After a moment, Tommy lowered his eyes to the phone and smiled faintly.

"You had a test done based solely on your intuition," he remarked.

"I didn’t want the question to keep bothering me," Lucian answered. "I told her I would let her see the results as soon as I received them, but she’s still asleep. I thought you might want to see them first."

Tommy nodded in understanding, tilting his head back as he released a heavy breath. But instead of answering Lucian’s question, he looked at him again.

"I’ve had the same dream countless times," he began. "Liza never knew, but every time I closed my eyes, I imagined a home where my daughter was still alive. And waking up from those dreams felt like entering a nightmare because it reminded me of the life I could never have."

"It reminded me of what I had done and of the punishment I deserved for the sinful life I had led," he continued. "I’ve always felt sorry for dragging Liza into it and causing her so much pain."

Tommy paused, a tender smile appearing on his face.

"Ashley is my daughter," he declared affectionately. "I know it."

"I don’t need a piece of paper to tell me whether she is my daughter. Blood or not, my heart has already accepted her as mine."

And nothing written on a report would ever change that.

Lucian studied Tommy and released a quiet sigh as Ashley’s determined expression somehow overlapped with his. He had never noticed it until now, but Tommy and Ashley’s eyes were remarkably similar.

"I see." Lucian nodded in understanding. "If that is your wish."

He leaned forward, picked up the phone, and slipped it back into his pocket.

At the same time, Gustav approached them.

"Master," he greeted before glancing at Tommy. "Sir Tom."

"How is the situation, Gustav?" Lucian asked as Gustav returned his attention to him.

"Everything went well. We left just before Interpol arrived," Gustav reported.

According to the reports, Interpol arrived shortly after the cleanup team finished clearing the scene. They had narrowly escaped. Interpol had also suffered heavy casualties after being caught in the explosion.

"Other than that, we’ve received the final count of our casualties. Fortunately, no one on our side died tonight, and everyone who was injured is receiving proper treatment. The Di Carpios suffered severe losses, thanks to Sir Tom’s allies," Gustav continued. "However, several people are still missing."

Tommy nodded. "We anticipated that some of Marshal’s men would try to flee, so I had men stationed at every possible exit."

That was how they had managed to intercept Marshal’s men after they fled the mansion. Initially, Tommy had thought those men had simply abandoned Marshal. It wouldn’t have surprised anyone. Even the men who had driven Carmella to the site had been caught preparing to ditch her after dropping her off.

However, after hearing Gustav’s report, Tommy realized he had been wrong.

"I see. So, they sold Marshal out, huh?" Tommy nodded in understanding. "And we caught them."

"Several people still managed to escape, and most of them were members of the Di Carpios’ top brass," Gustav added, staring at Tommy. "You suffered two casualties, sir."

"I heard." Tommy released a deep breath before shifting his gaze to Lucian. "I was told that some people confronted my men at one of the exits."

A long silence descended upon the cabin.

The weight of it was painfully familiar to both Lucian and Tommy. Leading an organization and commanding people in such a dangerous world was not for the faint of heart. They carried not only the burden of countless responsibilities but also the lives of every person who followed them.

Gustav cleared his throat, breaking the silence.

"Gin also managed to recover footage of the people responsible for their deaths."

As he spoke, he placed a folder on the table. He opened it, pulled out a zoomed-in photograph, and set it between Lucian and Tommy.
