Chapter 802

That told me something, they were comfortable. Comfortable men became careless men. So, I waited. One guard stopped near the corner of the building and checked his phone.

The other kept walking. I remained still for the seconds. The first man moved again. I waited until the two separated by enough distance that they couldn’t help each other.

Then I moved, he first guard never saw me coming.

I closed the distance before he could turn. My arm locked around him, cutting off the sound before it could leave his throat. He fought hard for a few seconds, boots scraping against the wet ground, but I kept him pinned.

I drove the blade once in the artery. His body went rigid. I held him there until the fight left him completely, then lowered him carefully into the grass. I wiped the blade against his jacket and looked toward the second guard.

He was still walking.

He had no idea his partner was already dead. He stopped suddenly. His body went stiff. He felt that something was wrong. His head turned slightly toward the trees where I stood.

I stepped out from the dark, moving fast. His eyes went wide, and his hand reached down to pull the gun from his belt.

He never got the chance.

I closed the distance in a split second, grabbing his face with my bare hand before he could even open his mouth to make a sound. I slammed him backward against the trunk of a thick tree. My other hand pulled the long tactical knife from my chest.

Before he could push me away, I drove the long steel blade straight up through the bottom of his chin, pushing it up into his throat until the hilt hit his skin.

His eyes bulged in total shock. His hands clawed weakly at my arms, but he couldn’t breathe, and he couldn’t scream. Blood spilled out over my fingers, hot and wet in the cold night air.

I twisted the blade sharp and hard, severing everything inside his neck, then ripped it free in one fast pull.

He collapsed against me, his knees giving out instantly. I held his body tight against my chest, feeling his last fast twitches fade away, until he went completely limp.

I lowered his lifeless body quietly to the muddy ground. I straightened and looked toward the compound.

Two fewer problems.

Eight left.

I checked the guard’s radio and disabled it before moving on. My eyes returned to the building. There were three possible entrances.

The main entrance was useless.

The service entrance had a camera directly above it.

The third was an access door near the side of the building. There was an older lock, less traffic and no visible camera covering the entire approach.

That was my door.

I moved toward it, the tracker showed Gianna was somewhere below the main structure.

Basement level.

I studied the building again. The service corridors connected directly to the lower floor. If the plans were accurate, I could reach the basement without crossing the main hall.

That was the route.

I reached the door and paused. My hand rested against the frame and I listened. I checked the security feed. The camera facing the corridor showed an empty hallway.

I opened the door, no alarm went off, and I slipped inside. The door closed behind me and the darkness swallowed me. I removed the night-vision goggles for a moment and let my eyes adjust to the faint emergency lighting.

The hallway smelled like disinfectant. Hospitals had that smell. So did places where people wanted blood to disappear.

I looked down the corridor and started walking. My boots barely made a sound against the floor.

The tracker pulsed on my screen. Gianna was still below me..I stopped at the stairwell. My hand tightened around the weapon, then I looked down..A faint light glowed beneath the door at the bottom.

I stepped back into the darkness and waited. Two men came through the lower doorway. They were talking quietly, neither noticed me. They passed.

I waited until their footsteps disappeared, then I descended. Every part of the building seemed designed to hide what happened inside it..That made me angrier than the guards ever could.

But anger could wait.
