Chapter 11 Out in the Open
After lunch, Bianca still followed Steven with red eyes.
When they reached a tree near the school field, Steven sat down on the grass.
“Come sit.”
Bianca twisted her fingers together and stood there nervously.
Steven smiled. “Didn’t you want to know why? Sit down and I’ll tell you.”

Only after looking at him for a moment did Bianca finally sit, though she stayed a few feet away from him.
“The truth is, I do have a reason for treating you well.”
Bianca looked at him in confusion.
What reason could he possibly have?
“I’m poor, ugly, and bad at school,” she said quietly. “What could you want from me?”
Steven laughed softly. “Bianca, you’re not ugly. And grades don’t decide everything. Do you trust me?”
Bianca tilted her head and nodded right away. “I trust you!”
Steven smiled at her. “Bianca, very soon you’ll awaken an SSS–rank Divine Sigil. You’ll become someone everyone looks up to. I’m nice to you because I see your talent. So when you become strong in the future, make sure you protect me.”
Bianca froze.
Just because of some SSS–rank Divine Sigil talent?
She couldn’t believe she would awaken a legendary Divine Sigil like that. Rowenville hadn’t seen a genius like that in many years.
It wasn’t that she didn’t believe Steven.
She just didn’t believe she could be that lucky.
“You don’t believe it, do you?” Steven asked.
Bianca nodded lightly. “I’ve never even dreamed about something like that.”

Steven grinned Bianca, you’ll see soon enough. That’s my reason for treating you well. I know you’ll become someone famous someday, so I’m investing in you now. Though honestly. I wish I’d started even sooner.
That really was Steven’s honest thought. But while he was helping her, he also hoped the future Ember Eternal would suffer a little less.
“Now that I’ve told you everything, if you really do awaken an SSS–rank Divine Sigil in the future, will you protect me even though you know I had my own reasons?”
Bianca looked at the sincere expression on his face and nodded without any hesitation.
Steven smiled. Sincerity always touched people the most.
But in Bianca’s heart, she was thinking regardless of whether Steven was lying or not, if she really awakened an SSS–rank Divine Sigil, she would protect him forever.
And even if this was all just a lie, she would still protect him with her life.
“Alright, let’s head back to class and rest a bit. Combat training starts soon.”
Steven walked ahead with a smile. After finally speaking honestly, he felt much better.
The guilt in his heart had eased too. Getting close to someone with a purpose always felt wrong, but now that everything was out in the open, it was easier to breathe.
Bianca quietly followed behind him.
Sunlight slipped through the thick leaves overhead and scattered across Steven’s back.
Inside her heart, Bianca whispered silently. If what you said is true, then I want to become the light in your future.
Because right now, you are my light.

So, she really didn’t need to worry.
Still, Bianca felt confused. If he is this strong, why does he pretend to be only B–rank?
Around that time, many students started heading toward the combat arena.
The students Steven humiliated that morning glanced at him again as they left the classroom. Their eyes were full of provocation.
Every one of them wanted to teach Steven a lesson today.
Timothy looked especially furious.
“Steven, don’t be a coward! I’ll be waiting for you!”
He turned his thumb downward at Steven in mockery, but Steven didn’t care at all.
Then Timothy and the others headed toward the arena.
Nelson ran over to Steven and asked, “Why aren’t you changing into your training uniform yet?”

Steven leaned back lazily and smirked.
“I’m not changing. If I need both hands to beat those trash losers, then I lose.”
