The wealthy central district was like a greenhouse, the safest area in the entire city.

The structure of society had never changed. A small number of people always controlled most of the world’s resources.

Bianca leaned against Steven’s shoulder, whispering into his ear, “They’re really persistent. They’ve been following us the whole way.”

Steven nodded. “It’s fine. Small fry like them aren’t important. What matters is figuring out who’s behind

them.”

After thinking for a moment, Bianca asked, “Who do you think it is?”

“Most likely someone from the Reads,” Steven said. “Elliot isn’t that stupid. It could also be the Shermans.

“The Shermans?”

“Timothy’s family.”

Bianca looked surprised. “The Shermans want revenge on you too?”

Steven explained, “The Shermans are a powerful family. I nearly got one of their younger members killed. They’re not going to let that slide so easily. Timothy hates me now. He’s definitely going to look for ways to get back at me.”

“Wasn’t Timothy punished? He killed someone.”

Steven shook his head. “The Shermans probably pulled some strings. At the very least, he won’t dare show

his face for a while.

“But none of that matters. Whoever comes after us is dead!

“Bianca, remember this. Never show mercy to anyone who tries to hurt you!

“Even an SSS–Rank can’t do whatever they want, but when it comes to protecting yourself, don’t hesitate.

“Like Abigail last time. You should’ve gone all out, ignored whether she lived or died, and taken her out.”

Bianca nodded. “I’ll remember that, Steven.”

Steven nodded.

Then, Bianca suddenly smiled. “Steven, Lilliana seems different now…”

Steven smiled. “That’s her business. It doesn’t have anything to do with me.”

Bianca rested her head on his shoulder.

Steven, sometimes it still feels unreal. Back in high school, everyone knew you liked Lilliana. Liking

someone…”

Steven quickly cut in. “Silly, stop thinking about that. I’m not cold–hearted, and I’m not fickle either. In this life, I only love you.

I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that to you.”

Bianca’s lips curved into a smile.

She leaned closer and murmured, “Okay.”

As they returned to the civilian district, the surroundings grew noticeably darker. Buildings were packed tightly together.

A question had always lingered in Steven’s mind.

In an era where resources were scarce, his grandpa–a gray–haired old man living in the civilian district not only had a house with a yard full of flowers and plants, but also never let Steven go without food, clothing, or anything he needed growing up.

Brian had even provided him with a Starlink when he was just a little kid.

He remembered someone had stolen that Starlink.

Yet somehow, Brian had gotten it back almost immediately.

at once.

“Aren’t we getting rid of the bugs?

After hesitating for a moment, Bianca said, “What if they try to hurt Mr. Fisher instead…”

Hearing that, Steven fell silent for a moment. Brian seemed to have a spatial converter as well…

“I’ll get some defensive weapons for Grandpa later. It should be fine.”

Only then did Bianca nod.

As the two reached the end of the street, they spotted a dirty little girl rummaging through a trash can.

She looked about eight or nine years old, thin as a rail, carrying a large woven sack.

The moment Bianca saw her, she immediately walked over.

“Hope.”

There was a hint of sadness in Bianca’s voice.

The little girl turned around.

At first, she looked wary, but when she recognized Bianca, her face lit up with surprise.

“Bianca?!”

Bianca smiled gently and brushed aside some of the girl’s messy hair.

“What? You couldn’t recognize me?”

Hope looked amazed. “Bianca, you’ve gotten so pretty!”

Bianca burst out laughing. “Thank you. You’re pretty too, Hope, How’d you do today?”

Hope quickly opened her sack, showing it off as if she were displaying her most prized treasures to Bianca.
