cerciless.
The principle was simple and inerciless.

The more attributes a person carried, the more diluted their power became, spreading thin across too many channels to master any one of them.
Steven’s Divine Sigil in his previous life ran on wind and fire, which was passable at best.
Wind bought him speed, which kept him alive through more close calls than he could count. Fire gave him something to fight with. It held together, barely.
But Bianca, the future Ember Eternal, carried an SSS–rank Blaze Divine Sigil that was entirely singular in
its nature.
She had one attribute, undiluted, and pushed to an absolute ceiling of raw, blazing power.
Nelson’s B–rank Strength Divine Sigil was exactly what the name said.
It was pure physical force, nothing fancy.
Steven spent most of their previous life calling him a tank, and nothing about this life was going to change
that.
Two hours into the Divine Awakening ceremony, Steven’s eyes drifted to the time with a slight lift of his brow.
Right about now.
Sure enough, in the very next moment, one of the Awakening Guidance Pillars detonated with a surge of deep, terrible black light.
An S–rank had shown up.
The entire field went absolutely wild.
Every official on the main platform rose from their seats, including Rufus and every representative from the Awakened Academy.
“We’ve got an S–rank!” Rufus‘ voice came out barely containing itself.
Every eye on the field locked onto the student standing at that pillar.
The student himself looked completely lost for a moment, staring at the black light pouring from his own Divine Sigil like he couldn’t quite accept what he was seeing.
He went still. Then the tears came, quiet and unstoppable, trailing down his face while the reality of it settled into his bones.
S–rank. An actual S–rank!
His whole future had just rewritten itself in a single breath.

The joy that lit up his face was the kind that couldn’t be contained or managed. It was the pure, overwhelming joy of someone who’d been fighting uphill their entire life and finally reached the summit.
If he stayed disciplined and built himself steadily, a Five–Sigil Divine General wasn’t a dream anymore; it was an expectation. And beyond that, a Six–Sigil Divine, King wasn’t impossible either. He could be a Lieutenant General in the military or maybe even someone higher someday.
The future stretched out in front of him, brilliant and terrifying and completely real.
The excitement was hard to contain.
“Who is that? Which class?”
The envy moved through the crowd in a wave.
S–rank.
“That’s Wayne Steele from Class 28! He lives in the civilian district! He’s my buddy!”
Someone announced it like they were already proud to know him.
Hearing that he came from the working–class side of town only deepened the reaction.
Another person from the civilian district was on the verge of becoming someone extraordinary.
Everyone around him was already calculating how to get on his good side.
That was bound to happen to any S–rank.
S–ranks meant a ticket to a golden future, and that included their sycophants.
Steven watched the whole scene with an expression that stayed largely undisturbed.
Nelson, on the other hand, was barely holding himself together.
“Steven, an S–rank! An actual S–rank! If I ever pulled an S–rank Awakening, I think I’d be too wired to sleep
୮ for a solid month!”
He grabbed Steven’s sleeve and shook it.
Plenty of high–rank Awakened fell short of their potential, got taken out early, or burned out under the weight of everything that came with the rank.
That was just how it worked.
The higher the rank, the more dangerous the road ahead was for them.
And climbing that road demanded enormous amounts of divine crystal, the kind that didn’t come cheaply or easily.
For those who paced themselves, built carefully, and prioritized survival above all else, the path was still
there.
Higher evolution brought longer lifespans, elevated status, greater wealth, and greater power.
Nobody in their right mind didn’t want S–rank.

But wanting it didn’t summon it. It either came or it didn’t.
Watching awakening after awakening unfold, Bianca grew gradually quieter and more settled.
“Steven,” she said softly, “when it happens, and everyone closes in at once, what do I do?”
She’d already stopped second–guessing it. Steven was never wrong about this kind of thing. She would awaken the SSS–rank sigil. She believed that now
“Don’t panic,” Steven said, the corner of his mouth curving. “The Awakened Academy teachers will step in and handle the crowd. You don’t even have to say anything if you don’t want to.
“SSS–rank speaks for itself.”
Bianca nodded carefully, tucking that away like a quiet promise to herself. She’d keep her mouth shut. Steven said so.
Further up the line, Lilliana stood with the cool, untouchable composure of fresh snow resting on a high mountain peak.
