"How about some dumplings? We have some from tonight, I’ll go boil some for you."
"Okay, go ahead and start cooking. I’m going to take a shower."
Fu Mingxue went to take a shower. By the time she finished and came out, the dumplings were ready.
Mrs. Fu hadn’t gone to sleep yet.
She sat down across from her. "I went to the hospital again this afternoon. Your husband is doing much better than he was this morning. It’s a good thing that Comrade Zhao is looking after him. Otherwise, he’d be all alone in the hospital with no one to care for him."
She had expected her daughter to be at the hospital, but when she arrived, Mingxue was gone. She was told that her daughter had returned to the factory for work.
As his mother-in-law, she felt a little embarrassed.
After all, this was the first day her son-in-law was awake after his injury, and he had just had surgery yesterday.
And yet, his wife wasn’t there.
"That’s right. Director Xie arranged for someone, so there was no need for me to stay at the hospital. I’ve been really busy lately, too. Mom, you don’t have to bring him meals either. It’s so far, and the hospital has a cafeteria. Just have Comrade Zhao get food from there."
"That won’t do at all," Mrs. Fu objected.
She thought that since her own daughter couldn’t be there to look after her husband, then she, as his mother-in-law, had to at least make some meals and bring them over.
"Mom, the food you bring will be cold by the time it gets there. It’s better to let them get food at the hospital. Don’t worry, I bought meal tickets."
But Mrs. Fu wouldn’t hear of it.
"All right, I know what I’m doing. You hurry up and eat, then go to sleep when you’re done. By the way, about your husband’s injury... have the Qin family been notified?"
"They’ve been called. I’m guessing my mother-in-law will come."
’The call was made last night.’
’As for today—I didn’t call again.’
’I’ve been so busy my head’s been spinning; how could I possibly remember something like that?’
’Besides, I can’t be expected to call and give a daily report on Qin Wenhao’s condition, can I?’
When Mrs. Fu heard that her son-in-law’s mother might be coming, she was pleased.
"Then I’ll clear out a room tomorrow, so she can sleep there."
Fu Mingxue was baffled.
