Mrs. Fu looked at her. "Frankly, I don’t think this is necessary. My daughter isn’t the descendant you’re looking for. Besides, she’s very busy with her own affairs, and—we don’t know each other well."
"As my educated daughter would say—it’s better to keep acquaintances at arm’s length. We’re just strangers who met by chance, why make things so complicated?"
"Furthermore, you showing up at our home like this has been a bother. But more importantly—you investigated my daughter behind our backs. What gives you the right?"
Mrs. Fu’s voice was filled with resentment as she spoke that last sentence.
She had initially planned to let it slide, considering the woman’s age and her search for a long-lost relative.
But now, seeing the grandmother and grandson show up at her door again, she was truly angry.
The frustration she had been suppressing finally boiled over.
Old Mrs. Rong’s face paled at the accusations.
"I-I’m sorry. We were rude. I promise we won’t look into it again."
Rong Jun, however, was getting angry.
"We didn’t investigate Fu Mingxue for no reason! She looks so much like my great-aunt—"
Mrs. Fu cut him off with a cold laugh. "There are plenty of look-alikes in the world. You’ll always find one or two in a crowd of a hundred. Does that make them all family?"
"What, you think you’re justified in randomly investigating people?"
Rong Jun was so angered by her words that he retorted recklessly, "If you haven’t done anything wrong, why are you so afraid of being investigated?"
Old Mrs. Fu was instantly furious.
"Bah! We come from a good, clean family, what do we have to fear from an investigation? Who do you think you are, investigating us?"
"You—you—" ’This is absurd.’
Before he could get the words out, Old Mrs. Rong slapped him across the face.
CRACK! The slap was deafeningly loud.
Rong Jun’s eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at his grandmother.
’How could she hit me?’
Old Mrs. Rong’s face was grim. "Rong Jun, where are your manners? Apologize. Now."
"Grandma, she’s the one who’s—" ’—being unreasonable.’
"If you don’t apologize, you can stop calling me your grandmother." Old Mrs. Rong’s authority was absolute.
Rong Jun could see his grandmother was truly angry.
