The high fever he’d suffered during the blizzard had given Simon Lancaster memories from two lifetimes, and he knew the course of events in each was completely different.
But perhaps because possessing memories from two lifetimes violated the natural order, Simon Lancaster couldn’t sort through them. Whenever he tried to recall specific details, he would grow dizzy and feel as if he were suffocating.
But for some reason, over the past few days, it was as if two souls had finally fused into one. Simon Lancaster felt the chaotic memories in his mind gradually begin to clear.
And so, Simon Lancaster meticulously pieced together the details of the last few years, following the threads of his two lifetimes, until he finally understood the root of the disaster—
Melody Summers!
In this lifetime, Melody Summers hadn’t returned to the Lancaster family. Instead, on the very day she was meant to be officially acknowledged by them, she had signed away the contract rights to Mount Anworth!
The signing of that agreement directly impacted the subsequent decisions of The Lancaster Enterprises, causing the company’s losses to spiral. Meanwhile, Melody not returning to the Lancaster family affected the arranged marriage between the Lancaster and Sutton Families, which in turn influenced the Sutton Family’s decision to invest in them.
It was these two things that had caused the Lancasters to lose even the assets they had managed to keep in his previous life, setting the family on a completely different, disastrous path this time around!
—Melody Summers was the true culprit behind the Lancaster family’s downfall in this life!
At this thought, Simon Lancaster’s eyes turned bloodshot as he glared at Melody Summers. "You little bitch!" he spat through gritted teeth. "Why?! Why didn’t you come back this time? It’s all your fault our family has ended up like this!"
Melody Summers froze for a moment, hearing the fury in Simon Lancaster’s question.
’Looks like Simon Lancaster was reborn, too.’
’Unbelievable. Why did all the people I hated in my past life decide to come back as a group?!’
Realizing that Simon Lancaster had also been reborn, the mocking smile on Melody Summers’ face slowly faded.
She stared into Simon Lancaster’s furious eyes and said slowly, "So you think I should have returned to your family?"
Simon Lancaster ducked his head, wiping away the cold sweat beading on his forehead from the pain. He lifted his head to glare at her and snarled, "Of course you should have come back!"
’If Melody had just come back to the family in this life, none of this would have happened!’
Melody Summers didn’t give a direct answer. She simply asked in a low voice, "I return to the Lancaster family. And then what?"
For some reason, her question made Simon Lancaster freeze. It was unclear what he was thinking, but the fury in his gaze faltered, and for a moment, he couldn’t meet her eyes.
Melody Summers didn’t miss the flash of guilt in his eyes. She sneered. "Cat got your tongue? Since you won’t say it, allow me—"
"You wanted me to come back to the Lancaster family to slave away for you, to be humiliated and crushed, to be exploited until I had nothing left to give, and then, as a tool to please Sylvia Lancaster, to be drugged and sent to a criminal’s bed?"
With every word she spoke, the shock in Simon Lancaster’s eyes grew.
He looked up at her, his face taut with tension. "Don’t! Don’t kill me! ...We’re siblings, from the same mother! You can’t kill me!"
"Siblings?" Melody Summers laughed as if he’d just told the funniest joke in the world. "You have the nerve to bring that up? How did I treat you in our past life, and how did you treat me?!"
The memory of her past life sent a fresh wave of rage through her.
She raised the iron rod high, then brought it crashing down on Simon Lancaster’s shin. A sickening CRACK echoed as he let out another agonized howl.
His wrists throbbed, his leg was on fire, his whole body ached. With nothing left to lose, Simon Lancaster snarled, "Are you mad because I showed favoritism? Well, whose fault is it that you weren’t gentle and understanding like Sylvia..."
Before he could finish, Melody Summers let out a sharp, derisive laugh. "Gentle and understanding? You mean willing to sleep with you?"
In that moment, Melody Summers looked at Simon Lancaster as if he were a piece of filth. "Even if you’re not blood-related, you were brother and sister for over twenty years," she said, her face filled with disgust. "To do something like that with your own sister... Simon Lancaster, you truly make me sick!"
His illicit feelings for his sister exposed, Simon Lancaster was overcome with shame and fury. But terrified that she would hit him again, he didn’t dare say a word, merely clenching his jaw in silence.
Melody shook her head, an exasperated look on her face. "What’s with that expression? Don’t tell me you’re going to claim you’re some kind of tragic romantic hero who only made my life hell because you were in love with Sylvia."
She scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. "Don’t be ridiculous! Simon Lancaster, a man like you isn’t capable of loving anyone. You just enjoy the thrill of manipulating and crushing two women at once!"
"You knew Sylvia’s petty tricks couldn’t beat me, so you helped her put me down just to keep things ’balanced.’ You reveled in her dependence on you while simultaneously leading me on, making me think I had to win your approval. You’re the most disgusting person in the entire Lancaster family!"
