Carter Jennings was slightly stunned that Melody Summers would accept Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster.
He didn’t know about the complex thoughts swirling in Melody’s mind, assuming she just had the simple, soft heart of a young girl who couldn’t bear to abandon her biological parents.
So he smiled at Melody Summers and praised, "Miss Summers is as kind as she is beautiful... In that case, please, take them with you!"
With a wave of his hand, Carter Jennings gave the signal. Two security guards understood immediately, stepped forward, and untied the ropes binding Robert Lancaster and Elaine Hughes.
Once free, Elaine Hughes and Robert Lancaster helped each other to their feet. They looked at Melody Summers with an expression of relief and gratitude, a sight that made Melody’s skin crawl.
Elaine Hughes wiped the tears from her eyes and, for the first time in two lifetimes, spoke to Melody Summers in a loving tone. "My dear daughter, Mother knew you wouldn’t abandon me..."
As she spoke, she moved forward to take Melody’s hand, but Melody’s eyelid twitched at the sight, and she deftly sidestepped her.
’What kind of joke is this woman playing? Putting on this act of a loving mother-daughter reunion here?’
’So she’s been reborn, too! Then she definitely knows she drugged me in our last life. How can she even pretend?’
Ignoring Elaine Hughes’s surprised and hurt expression, Melody Summers gave the pair a cold glance and said to Carter Jennings, "Jennings, we’ll be leaving now."
Melody couldn’t be bothered with anything else. The priority was to get these two out of here before they started spouting nonsense!
Carter Jennings smiled and nodded. "Of course. Please, Miss Summers."
Watching Melody Summers’s retreating figure, Carter Jennings narrowed his charming, almond-shaped eyes, the corners of his lips curling into a thoughtful smile.
’Quiet, beautiful, simple, and soft-hearted... She’s exactly my type.’
Just then, a cheerful female voice came from behind him—
"Like what you see? If you like her, go for it."
Carter Jennings turned to see Joy Jennings walking slowly toward him.
Joy Jennings was Carter Jennings’s younger sister, a woman in her early twenties. The siblings shared the same strikingly similar almond-shaped eyes, but on Joy, they lacked their brother’s roguish charm, appearing more innocent and sweet.
Carter Jennings just gave a casual laugh. "I wouldn’t say I *like* her. I just feel... she’d make a rather suitable plaything."
’Soft-hearted girls like her pretend to be so calm and composed on the surface, but they’re the easiest to scare. She’d probably burst into tears at the sight of blood. The most interesting kind of toy. It makes you want to rip away that calm facade and see panic spread across her pretty face.’
’It’s just a shame her mother is the director of the reconstruction department. It won’t be so easy to make a move...’
Carter Jennings didn’t continue the topic. He waved his hand, dismissing the surrounding guards, then turned to Joy. "What brings you here? How are things with the Walsh Family? What are their plans for Zara Walsh’s funeral?"
Joy Jennings curled her lip in mockery. "What plans? There’s nothing to plan!"
"Keep up appearances?" Joy scoffed. "Why should I bother when the Walshs themselves can’t even be bothered to pretend? Especially Shane Walsh. He always acts like such a doting father, but now that his daughter is dead, he doesn’t even want to hold a proper funeral..."
Zara Walsh was once the beloved daughter of the Walsh Family, the apple of their eye. But ever since she went to prison and lost her value as a marriage prospect, she was immediately cast aside.
Shane Walsh forbade her from attending any public events, forcing her to stay quietly in her villa. If she hadn’t been so isolated and helpless, Zara wouldn’t have resorted to such a childish scheme to get back at Melody Summers.
Now, even in death, the Walsh Family was unwilling to spend much time or energy on her, preparing only for a hasty cremation and burial.
This incident alone was a testament to how heartless the Walshs truly were.
Carter remained noncommittal and changed the subject. "By the way, have you settled our aunt in? Our uncle just asked me about her. He said she’s not in good health and was worried she wouldn’t be comfortable here."
Joy replied, "Tell Uncle not to worry. I had someone prepare the villa with the best view at The Metropolis Residences for our aunt. I also arranged for six maids to tend to her daily needs and ten bodyguards for the villa, so there’s no need to worry about her safety."
She then pressed her lips together and giggled, teasing, "I really never would have guessed. A cold, unapproachable old traditionalist like our uncle... I thought he was going to die alone..."
"But he actually went and married a woman more than ten years his junior, and he’s so completely smitten with her. He has to personally see to every detail of her life. No wonder they say there’s no fool like an old fool in love. Now I’ve seen it with my own eyes, hahaha..."
Carter laughed along with her. "Uncle and Aunt have only been married a year. They’re still newlyweds, and their love is at its peak. Besides, our aunt is a daughter of the Hughes Family from Kyodo. It’s only normal that Uncle adores her."
Hearing the words "Hughes Family," Joy seemed to have a sudden thought. "Speaking of the Hughes Family from Kyodo... I remember they have another daughter who married into the Lancaster Family, the one in the tourism industry over here. The Lancaster Family is bankrupt now, so I imagine she’s having a hard time. Why don’t we bring them over? It would be a good chance for our aunt to reunite with her sister."
