Reborn with Nothing but My Farm and Vengeance in the Apocalypse novel Chapter 568

Chapter 568: Chapter 568: Deeply Hidden

Brandon Walsh crossed his legs and said, "Besides, so what if someone actually investigates? Those women from the lab have already been moved. Even if the police go check it out, they’ll only be able to bust us for gambling and prostitution. They won’t find anything else!"

Autumn Sawyer had always managed the business at The Serene Leaf Teahouse. If the higher-ups really launched an investigation, at worst, they could just have her take the fall. A few years in jail for her wouldn’t affect them at all.

At this point, Brandon Walsh turned to the silent Hayden Jennings and asked, "Jennings, what do you think? Have you gotten those women settled in properly?"

Hayden Jennings didn’t answer. He just stared intently at his phone screen, completely absorbed.

His phone was playing a short clip of surveillance footage. Several cameras on the first and second basement levels of The Serene Leaf Teahouse had been destroyed. This was the only surviving clip, from a camera in a hidden corner that had gone unnoticed.

And in this footage, he had spotted something... unusual.

Seeing that Hayden Jennings was still silent, Brandon Walsh asked, a little confused, "Jennings? Jennings! What are you looking at?"

Hayden Jennings looked up and asked Shane Walsh and Brandon Walsh, "Have either of you considered how those two young girls managed to escape with so many bodyguards watching over The Serene Leaf Teahouse?"

Shane Walsh and Brandon Walsh were both taken aback. Brandon said, perplexed, "Didn’t Yuri find them and let them go?"

Hayden Jennings shook his head. "Before Yuri let them go, they had already knocked out all the bodyguards on the first and second basement levels."

In other words, they would have escaped even if Yuri hadn’t been there.

This was what confused and worried Hayden Jennings the most.

Brandon Walsh thought for a moment and replied, "Probably a sneak attack. Or maybe the bodyguards saw they were just two girls and let their guard down. They fell right into their trap and got knocked out cold!"

Brandon Walsh didn’t believe two young girls could be that capable. The Serene Leaf Teahouse had plenty of bodyguards, but security wasn’t impenetrable. It wasn’t impossible for them to find an opportunity to escape.

Thinking of this, Brandon Walsh snorted again. "It’s infuriating, really. A lot of these bodyguards are just people who changed careers after the cataclysm. They have no professional training, no sense of professionalism at all. Otherwise, Zara wouldn’t have been..."

"I’m afraid it’s not that simple," Hayden Jennings interjected in a low voice, cutting off Brandon Walsh’s rant. He held his phone up to Brandon and Shane Walsh, showing them the short surveillance clip.

Due to the camera’s angle, it only captured a single corner. In the footage, a bodyguard was leaning against the wall, playing on his phone.

Suddenly, a hand reached into the frame from the right!

The hand lightly touched the bodyguard. In the next second, the man crumpled silently to the floor as if his bones had vanished.

"What the...?" Shane Walsh and Brandon Walsh stared at the screen, dumbfounded, unable to comprehend what had just happened.

’How could a mere touch make someone collapse like that?’

’Was he acting?!’

Considering this possibility, Brandon Walsh said angrily, "What’s with this bodyguard! Is he just here to collect a paycheck and slack off? He didn’t want to do his job, just wanted to play on his phone, so he pretended to faint when he saw someone coming?"

If all the bodyguards they were paying for were like this, it was no wonder those two little brats escaped!

The more Brandon Walsh thought about it, the angrier he became. He slammed his hand on the table and said in a low voice, "I’m having Autumn Sawyer replace all the teahouse bodyguards immediately. If I find anyone else collecting a paycheck for nothing, I’ll send them to the lab!"

Hayden Jennings said nothing. ’It’s not that simple,’ he thought.

Shane Walsh quickly asked his son, "What are you two saying? That that young girl has some kind of drug on her hands that can knock a person out with a single touch?"

Brandon Walsh frowned. "How is that possible? How could something like that exist in the world?"

Yuri Walsh didn’t answer. He didn’t know how. He also found it unbelievable. The skin’s absorptive capacity is limited. If such a drug really existed, it would fundamentally challenge his understanding of medicine.

The four men were each lost in their own thoughts. No one spoke, and the room fell into silence.

After a long moment, Hayden Jennings sighed softly. "I never would have expected this... They say Director Summers is a woman as capable as any man. I didn’t think her daughter would be so impressive as well. The Summers family really keeps its cards close to the chest..."

With that, he turned to Yuri Walsh and asked, "Her file? Do you have it ready?"

Yuri Walsh faltered for a second. After a moment’s hesitation, he handed over one of the files he was holding.

Hayden Jennings took the file, adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose, and began to read it carefully.

Melody Summers’s background was simple, yet not so simple. She came from a rural area and, despite the relatively poor educational environment, tested into the city’s best middle school and then into one of the country’s top universities. She was clearly quite capable. However...

Hayden Jennings looked at Melody Summers’s photo and chuckled. "I’ve met Director Summers before. This young lady doesn’t look much like her..."

Hearing Hayden Jennings’s words, Shane Walsh suddenly slapped his thigh. "I’d completely forgotten until you mentioned it, Professor Jennings! So it’s her!"

As Hayden Jennings looked on, confused, Shane Walsh continued, "That girl isn’t actually Winnie Summers’s biological daughter. She’s adopted. And speaking of which, she has a bit of a connection to your wife!"
