Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 139

Chapter 139

A good Samaritan with no brains or sense of danger. Too bad, but good for Marissa. She hadn’t been particularly looking forward to a long trek in her condition. Not to mention a white wolf would certainly be noticeable in the pitch dark. She didn’t exactly blend in with her surroundings.

“Shit,” the driver cursed, glancing out the windscreen before reluctantly getting out and starting to head to the front, concerned she had injured the animal and uncertain what to do if she did.

Maybe she could contact some sort of rescue? But who in their right mind would take a wolf in? She doubted she could simply take it to a vet. Not to mention the animal might hurt her in their distress. It wasn’t wise to get too close to wolves, but she was soft-hearted and couldn’t bear to think of an animal being in pain because of her reckless actions.

It would be her undoing. She should have listened to her gut instincts and remained in the car.

Marissa smirked. She feigned injury. The driver knelt, her hand trembling. She was young. Couldn’t be older than twenty and for a moment, Marissa felt a momentarily pang of regret that she instantly dismissed. It couldn’t be helped. The young girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She cocked her head up, startling the girl who tried to back away. She was too late. Marissa clamped her jaws down on her arm and tackled the girl to the ground as she screamed. She headbutted the girl, rendering her unconscious, deciding to be merciful for once. Somebody that young and innocent didn’t deserve to die for her compassionate nature. It was the first time in a long time that Marissa had felt anything for another human being. Strange. Maybe she was starting to lose it?

She tapped her fingers thoughtfully on the steering wheel and then started the car, peering into the rearview mirror. She heard the sounds of wolves howling and smiled tightly to herself. So close and yet Hades’ men had failed. It gave her a great sense of satisfaction. She turned the headlights off and began to drive, smiling widely to herself. There was plenty of gas in the car, and the woman had left her purse and bag in the car as well. Marissa couldn’t believe her good fortune. She whistled happily under her breath, listening to the sounds on the stereo, her focus only on one objective. Get to Dark Moon Pack and rescue her mother from Alpha Drake.

It was going to be easier said than done. She was going to need reinforcements, and she had a general idea of where to go from here. She exhaled, pushing her foot on the gas and speeding down the road, unhindered, singing to the radio and heading as far away as possible. With luck, she could reach her destination by sunrise.
