Chapter 163
“Not so pretty now, are we?” MaryAnne smiled, suddenly plunging the knife into my thigh, twisting it hard as my head hit the bed, flinging backwards, my mouth open in a silent scream. “Hades is never going to look at you the same way again,” she hissed.
“That’s what you think,” I rasped, “Hades isn’t as shallow as you might think. He’s never going to take Marissa as his chosen mate, and these scars will heal.”
“You may be right. I’ll have to use the silver blade later and scar you permanently,” she said wickedly.
Marissa looked away and swallowed hard. I knew I couldn’t depend on her for help. She was too frightened of MaryAnne, and I didn’t blame her. Maybe it was enough that she wasn’t participating in my torture. Maybe my pleas earlier had reached her.
“Scream, Raven,” MaryAnne urged triumphantly, “scream all you like because nobody else will hear you. We’re in the middle of nowhere and nobody is coming to save you. You’re all alone, Raven,” she whispered, smiling widely, “and I have nothing but time.”
But no matter what, I would not give in to her. I refused. This only infuriated MaryAnne more as she roughly yanked out the knife, looking frustrated and more than a little enraged.
“Scream,” she shrieked, losing her composure, “let me hear you cry. You fucking little slut,” she screamed, biting her lip so hard she drew blood.
“Fuck you,” I grunted, still trying to subtly pull at my restraints, despite the pain, “you crazy bitch.”
This seemed to infuriate her further. I wasn’t behaving as she expected. I wasn’t giving her what she wanted. I knew this was only going to make her more desperate and even more creative in her torture.
We have to be cautious. MaryAnne’s already threatened Aeress. We defy her and she won’t hesitate to snap Aeress’s neck, I added, gritting my teeth as MaryAnne plunged the knife back into my thigh, lower down this time.
So, provoke her. Find her weak spot. Something that’s going to piss her off the most and use it to get her attention. Something that’s bound to infuriate her so much she forgets what she’s doing.”
Something to piss her off? Something to make her lose her composure and come attack me? I frowned, contemplating. MaryAnne wasn’t as naïve as Marissa. She wasn’t going to fall for just any insult or personal attack. It would have to be something that struck her heart. Something that caused pain. Something she would not be able to let go of. Suddenly I had a perfect idea. If this didn’t provoke MaryAnne, nothing would.
I only hoped it didn’t result in my death. Still, it was worth a try. Anything to keep Aeress safe.
