Hades POV

I couldn’t stand still. I paced back and forth in the corridor, growling lowly in my throat in frustration, constantly flicking my eyes towards the doors that led to Raven’s room, unable to hide my fear for my mate.

She’d been so lifeless when we took her in. Nothing had brought her back from her deep slumber, and she’d looked like she was practically gone.

We were too late. A couple of minutes earlier, and she would have been saved. Who would have guessed that Marissa would escape with a fucking hunter for God’s sake? MaryAnne had planned everything, including a backup plan. I was glad that bitch was dead.

“You have to let them work on her, Hades,” my sister Aeress whispered, putting a comforting hand on my shoulder as Jackson nodded in the background.

I fought the urge to give in and punch the walls, to let out an anguished scream, instead focusing on keeping myself calm while my wolf raged inside my head. I could break down later, but not now. Not when Raven needed me the most.

“It’s taking too long,” I growled, “they should have updated us by now.”

Couldn’t anybody see how close I was to losing it? Where were the doctors, the nurses? Why was it taking them so long to bring Raven out of the theatre?

“They’re doing the best they can. You would only be a distraction if you go in there,” Aeress whispered, her own voice betraying her as it shook slightly in her own concern for Raven.

Oh god no. It couldn’t be. If he was telling me she was….I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. I couldn’t live without her. My breath caught, and my heart squeezed painfully in my chest as I forced myself to speak the words, dreading the answer.

“Don’t tell me she’s gone,” my voice broke slightly as I stared at the man, my body beginning to tremble slightly. “don’t tell me she’s going to…”

I fight to keep the tears at bay. If I thought it would help, I would gladly sacrifice myself to save my mate and precious unborn child.

“She’s not dead, at least not yet. The blood you all donated has done a lot to help her improve. She’s stable,” he quickly clarified and then frowned, “but the poison has put her in a coma of sorts. She’s also still under observation, as anything could happen within the next few days that could cause complications or change her condition to become critical. It’s a wait and see for now,” he told us heavily, “and whether she survives or not is going to rely strongly on her will to live and the strength she has.”
