My heart seizes in my chest. Now that she’s here, I can’t bear to be parted from her again. It hurts too much.

“Abandon your father and brother? Your mate who loves you? Your friends?” She looked knowingly at me, They’re all waiting for you, Raven. Their hearts are broken. They can’t imagine life without you and you can’t do that to them. There’s still so much you have to accomplish,” she looks meaningfully at my stomach, and my hand automatically goes there, protective of Iny unborn child.

“You still have a child to give birth to. You still have a life ahead of you. I won’t let you stay here, in between, when there’s so much more waiting for you,” she whispered, shaking her head at me.

“But,” I trail off as realization dawns.

I can’t do this. It would be wrong to stay when I had the choice to return to everyone waiting for me.

As much as it breaks my heart, I can’t stay here. I need my mate. I need my family. I need my child. I look at her, blinking back the tears. I’m being selfish, and I know it. I just want more time with her. Time that I don’t have.

“But I never got to know you,” my voice cracks with grief.

“Why do you think you got to see the videos?” she smiled at me, “a little glimpse into my life. A little bit of me. But it’s time now, Raven,” she said quietly as I stiffened, “you can’t stay here. Too long and it will be too late to turn back,” she warned, “and you’ll be stuck here forever in limbo.”

“Turn back?” I’m confused. “How? I don’t know what to do,” I confessed.

She nods, gesturing behind me. There’s a door now, the frame a pure glowing light. I look at it, feeling the power it holds. The light is pure white, so bright that it’s impossible to stare at the door too long. It’s strangely fitting somehow, a door leading to nowhere and appearing out of thin air. I don’t even question it.

“You need to go through it. You need to wake up,” she urged.

“I can’t leave you,” I beg her, “can’t you come with me?”

If I wait too long, it will vanish right in front of my eyes.

“Go and don’t look back!” my mother shouted, “and beware the hunters, because they are coming for you. You and your family! Protect them, Raven, and protect my mate! I’m counting on you,” she finished.

I turn the handle, my mother’s warning echoing inside my mind. The door swings open silently. All that’s on the other side is a blinding light. I put my hand across my eyes and then, feeling nervous, I step through it, hearing the door shut behind me. I feel like I’m falling down a deep abyss, and my mouth opens in a silent scream as I feel myself plunging to what is certainly going to end in my death….

Crash. I hear the sounds of beeping noises of machinery, and feel like my body has become a heavy weight. Slowly with great care, my eyes begin to flutter open, and it’s like the whole world comes to a standstill before a pair of strong arms wraps around me, and I hear my mate shouting out my name in relief.
