Chapter 179
“She’s fine, thanks to you,” I told her warmly, “you saved her Raven. She’s visited you every day. She’s going to be so excited when I tell her you’re awake. She and Jackson were also worried about you.”
“I still want to see for myself,” she grunted, “and what about Marissa?” She eyes me expectantly.
I hate to disappoint her, but it can’t be helped. “She’s gone. We don’t know where.”
“Considering she had a hunter helping her, I’m not surprised,” she said quietly as a strange look crossed her face.
I can’t tell what it is. She seems almost relieved we didn’t catch Marissa, but that doesn’t make any sense. I thought the two of them were mortal enemies? Aeress had filled me in on what went down, but just because Marissa suddenly had a conscience or didn’t participate in Raven’s torture didn’t necessarily mean she’d changed into a good person overnight.
Raven stands up on shaky legs. I fight not to growl at her, frustrated at how stubborn she is being. She looks me directly in the eyes. “I’m going back to father’s,” she gritted out, “and nobody is stopping me. I’m assuming I’m on Shadow Pack territory?”
“For now,” I said scowling at her, “so is Aeress and Jackson.”
“Good,” she says, ripping out her iv before we can stop her.
“Miss Sinclair, I have to insist…” the doctor began, finally finding his voice.
“It’s Miss Shadow,” she turned on him, growling lowly in her throat.
He flinched at the cold look in her eyes. She hated being associated with MaryAnne Sinclair.
“My apologies, Miss Shadow, you would be going against medical advice…” he said as she just shrugged her shoulders, looking unconcerned.
“I don’t care.”
Her tone is final. She’s leaving unless we physically restrain her, and I’m not about to do that.
I pause, looking at her quizzically. Maybe she was still out of it and confused. I decide to humour her.
“Who’s coming?”
“The hunters Hades. They’re coming for us, and we need to be prepared to survive,” she said with absolute certainty.
“You’re just a little confused, honey. The hunters won’t be able to breach the security in our pack. I’ve doubled our security; I’ve made more protocols. Nothing is going to happen,” I reassure her, putting her in her seat and buckling up her seatbelt.
I’m positive about this. Raven’s safety had been my main priority. Alpha Daxton and I had increased security around both of our packs to ensure nothing like this happened again.
Her hand shoots out and grabs me by the arm, her head shaking adamantly, her voice a low whisper. “They’re coming, Hades. I know it for sure. We have to protect the pack. We have to protect my family. Because if I know anything, when they come, they won’t show mercy. They’ll kill us. They’ll kill us all. Women, children, the elderly. They’ll stop at nothing to annihilate us.”
A shiver ran down my spine as she looked at me with determination, a strange light in her eyes as though she had firsthand knowledge that this was going to happen.
