Chapter 203
I’d never pitied anybody as much as I pitied her in that moment.
“Fine,” Marissa said suddenly, straightening up as Damien glared at her, “I’ll just reject you then. I, Marissa Sinclair,” she began with a hiss, “reject you Damien Shadow as….”
He moved. One moment, he was beside me, and the next he was in front of Marissa, his hand gripping her throat, squeezing as her lips parted in shock.
“I dare you to finish that sentence,” he snarled.
I was shocked. Damien had never shown an inclination to violence before. Marissa had somehow tipped him over the edge and he’d lost restraint.
“Let me go,” Marissa panted.
He dropped his hands. She stared up at him, her mouth parting, but no words coming out. She was speechless and to be honest, so was I.
“Damien, you’re going overboard,” I spoke, “Marissa is still recovering,” I added.
“According to the doctors she’s fine. She can recover back in my pack,” he snapped.
“You’re going to take me back?” Marissa sounded slightly hysterical, “I can’t. The pack members will hate me. It’s not safe.”
“You don’t have a choice,” Damien’s voice was callous, “you go back to my pack with me, or I banish you as a rogue and you take your chances.”
He rakes his gaze over her, his lip twisting in disdain.
“Something tells me you won’t survive, you spoiled, pampered bitch.”
I winced.
“Being a rogue might be preferable to your hatred,” Marissa shot back.
Damien let out a bitter laugh. “You wouldn’t make it through one day. I have rogues camped outside my territory right now that I have yet to deal with, and I won’t hesitate to lead them right to you,” he threatened.
“You wouldn’t dare,” Marissa whimpered, already knowing the answer.
Fuck. Damien was like a man possessed. Like the devil incarnate himself.
“Trust me, I would. Your death would bring me nothing but joy,” he spat out.
“Then why keep me? Just to make my life miserable?” Marissa said brokenly, “you’re not just making me miserable but yourself as well. It would be better to let me go.”
“Damien, maybe she’s right,” I ventured.
If I’d known he would react like this, I would never have suggested he come to Marissa’s room and speak with her properly.
It had proven to be a huge mistake.
He swept me into an embrace.
“For now,” he assured me, “but I’ll be back. This doesn’t change anything between us little sister,” he murmured, “and if you need me, I’ll always come running. I love you,” he mumbled.
“I love you. I just want you to be happy,” I patted him on the back.
“We’ll see,” he said and I had to be content with that for now.
“I’ll leave you two alone,” I nodded at the closed bathroom door, “I hope things work out the way you intend Damien.”
“I’ll be waiting for my little niece to be born.”
“So sure it’s a girl?” I giggled.
“I have a sixth sense. Just because you haven’t told me doesn’t mean I’m not psychic,” he boasted.
I left the room laughing to myself and hoping, against all odds, that Damien might come to his senses and realize that he might need Marissa as much as she needed him.
But that was up to fate.
Time would only tell.
