Chapter 217
Her lower lip quivered.
“Then you don’t know her at all,” she said so softly I almost missed it.
“Don’t you dare insult me,” I growled, moving forward and gripping her throat, my fingers loose but prepared to tighten at the merest hint she might try to move.
She didn’t. Just stared at me with a resignation that almost made me pause.
Almost.
“You crossed the line today Marissa. There is very few things I would forgive, but this isn’t one of them. You hurt one of my people,” I hissed, my face inches from hers, “and that’s unforgivable.”
“You’re never going to believe me are you?” she said defeatedly, “you trust her more than me.”
“Because Alice doesn’t lie. She doesn’t manipulate. She doesn’t try to kill innocent people,” I shot back, “can you say the same?”
I deliberately dug the knife in.
She looked stricken.
It was all true. She couldn’t deny it. I smiled cruelly at her.
“Exactly. You don’t have a leg to stand on, and I don’t trust you.”
“She planned this, all of it,” she wasn’t giving up.
I shook my head, my eyes beginning to flash.
“That’s enough, Marissa. You’re just digging yourself a bigger hole. Just because we’re mates doesn’t mean you’re not going to be properly punished for harming an innocent shifter.”
I released my fingers from her throat and studied her, my eyes turning dark.
“Then reject me,” she pleaded, “if you don’t trust me, then reject me.”
I gave a mocking laugh.
“You think I would let you go this easily?” I smiled, my eyes glinting, “No, Marissa, I’m going to make sure you suffer. I’m not going to make life easier for you by rejecting you. You’re going to pay for your actions today and finally feel the consequences.
She’d gotten away with what she did for far too long, and now I was going to make her pay.
“Please,” her voice trembled, “Damien I…” she trailed off, and her shoulders slumped.
She looked resigned to her fate.
Like she instinctively knew that no amount of begging was going to be enough to change my mind.
“You’re really going to do this,” she breathed out, looking up at me with her big blue eyes.
I hardened my heart.
Two guards appeared as summoned. Marissa’s eyes shot to them. I motioned to them, and they stepped foot

inside the kitchen and headed straight for her.
“You even think of shifting and hurting one of my warriors, I’ll make sure you wish you had never been bern. ” ! warned her as they each took hold of one of her arms.
She heeded my words.
“Take her to the dungeon. Restrain her with silver and make sure there’s no possible way to escape. I want het secured far more carefully than the other prisoners, and nobody,” my voice dropped menacingly, “steps foot inside that cell except me unless you feel like courting death.”
I wasn’t trying to protect her, merely ensuring that nobody in this pack was stupid enough to do something they would regret.
The men who stood guard at the dungeon were trustworthy, though. I’d hand picked them myself.
They nodded solemnly. Began to drag Marissa away. She tried to pull away and hissed as they tightened their grip on her. She was desperate to reach me, but I half turned away.
“Damien,” she screamed as they dragged her forward, “Damien, I swear I didn’t…” she sobbed, “please don’t do this. Please, I’m afraid of the dark,” she shrieked.
“Good,” my voice was blunt, “Try not to die of fear. I would hate to miss out on my fun.”
I was deliberately tormenting her.

I’d sneered at her. I’d ignored the tears streaming down her face.
