Chapter 285
The tears fell.
My fear for Aaron was overwhelming.
We turned as we heard wolves crashing towards us.
Marissa gave a smile as she let go and stepped back.
“See, they’re both coming.”
Two wolves halted in front of us.
“We’ll give you some privacy,” Marissa said softly and then shifted, her wolf and Damien’s running off together
That left Aaron.
He shifted immediately, striding towards me, his look filled with panic.
He grabbed me and raked his eyes over me.
“Are you hurt? Are you injured?” he demanded, “Do you have any idea how scared I was when I saw you take off with two rogues right on your heels? Never do that to me again,” he growled.
“I was trying to help,” my voice broke as I burrowed into his arms, “I didn’t want you to die,” I sniffled.
He was covered in blood. It was everywhere, on his face, in his hair, all over his body. I pulled back and looked at him, seeing the huge scratches on his body, seeing the bruises and pained look on his face.
“You’re hurt,” I cried.
“It’s nothing,” he said with an exhale, “Damien got to me in time. I was just taking one out when Damien killed the other one. I’m fine, Asher,” he added, but I didn’t believe him.
“Marissa saved me,” I admitted, “she’s quite impressive. I didn’t know she was a white wolf.”
Aaron nodded.
“Her fighting skills were abysmal when she first came here, but she’s worked hard and now she can fight really well.”
“We need to go back. I need to speak with Damien, find out how this happened.”
“Marissa seemed upset. Do you really think somebody allowed them to enter?”
“I don’t know. They might have just got lucky or seen a blind spot in our security, but rogues generally aren’t that clever. Generally, all they care about is killing and rushing blindly into territories.”
“Then it had to be intentional,” I mused, “but who would put their pack in danger like that? What if a child got hurt? Don’t they have a conscience?”
“Get cleaned up,” she said quietly to us both, “and then we can talk. We need to find out who’s behind this before it happens again. Damien’s furious that the patrol failed to pick up their presence.”
We nodded.
Aaron led me to our room and offered me the first shower. I was quick. Unlike him, I wasn’t covered in blood, just dirt.
He got in. I heard the sound of running water as I dressed.
Miraculously while I was gone, clothes had magically appeared, all in my sizes. I wondered if it was Aaron or Marissa who had organized it. I didn’t mind either way.
I’d just gotten dressed into pajamas, wanting the comfort more than the practicality of the clothes when Aaron walked out and I saw the true extent of his injuries.
His body looked like a battle ground and my breath hitched.
He’d downplayed how hurt he was.
“Aaron, why didn’t you tell me how bad you were hurt?” My voice rose in anger as he looked at me in surprise.
“Damnit, don’t you know how much I care about you,” I blurted out in frustration and his eyes lit up as he looked at me, his smile growing wide.
Shit. I’d spoken without thinking and now, Aaron looked as though I’d handed him the moon.
