"Mama..."
Lizetta was very close to the baby, about to kiss his forehead, when she heard the little guy's soft, sweet murmur.
She froze, thinking her ears were playing tricks on her, and looked up at Remington with a dazed expression.
Remington's lips curled upward as he clicked his tongue, pretending to be jealous and annoyed.
"That little brat. I've got a literal bullet hole in me for him, and his first word is 'Mama.' I'm so disappointed."
He reached out as he spoke, pretending to pinch Joy's chubby cheek.
Lizetta's eyes lit up instantly. She quickly blocked his hand, her voice suppressed but brimming with excitement.
"You heard it too, right? Did Joy really just say 'Mama'?!"
Remington watched her beam with uncontainable joy. If she hadn't been holding the baby, she probably would have been jumping up and down. He pressed his lips together and replied.
"Yes, your son learned how to say Mama!"
Tears immediately welled in Lizetta's eyes. She couldn't believe it. Just moments ago, she had told Jerome over the video call that Joy's first word had to be Mommy.
And just seconds after hanging up, he had actually said it.
Overwhelmed with emotion and fierce affection, she rested her forehead against his tiny face, thinking to herself.
Had Joy understood her? Was that why he instantly granted her tiny wish?
Lizetta couldn't bear to put the adorable little guy down. She looked back up at Remington.
"My son is so incredibly smart. He's a little angel, an absolute genius. He said Mama! He knows how to say Mama."
She looked like she could repeat it a thousand times without ever getting tired, her expression radiating absolute pride.
Remington stared at the little guy in her arms, whose cheeks were flushed with sleep and who looked like he was about to blow drool bubbles. Suddenly, this newly recovered child was starting to feel like a bit of a nuisance.
He didn't argue, simply nodding.
"I'll go change into my hospital gown in the bathroom so I don't disturb his sleep."
Lizetta nodded absentmindedly, continuing to pat Joy.
A split second later, she realized something was wrong. She turned her head, only to see Remington quietly pulling a set of hospital clothes from the cabinet. His head was slightly bowed as he walked toward the bathroom.
His retreating figure radiated an aura of profound loneliness and abandonment.
It finally dawned on Lizetta that right before Joy woke up, she had been in the middle of helping Remington change his clothes.
But it had been over four hours since Joy woke up, and her attention had been so entirely absorbed by the baby that she had completely and utterly neglected Remington.

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
