He glared at the figure huddled under the blanket, his voice dripping with cold sarcasm. "If you're in such bad shape, then stay put and rest. Stop running around all day just to get yourself hurt, only to turn around and blame me for it!"
Gail hurried into the room carrying a thermos. "Mr. York, leave this to me. Mrs. York doesn't want to see you right now, so you should probably give her some space."
Miles stormed out of the room, his handsome face tight with fury, acting as if everyone had deeply offended him.
"Hello, Dr. Wells," Gail greeted.
"Gail, please take good care of her. Call me if you need anything."
"I will."
Once they were alone, Quinn grabbed her phone from the nightstand. Since Gail was still in the room, she couldn't call, so she sent a text to Yara instead.
Yara replied almost instantly: [Quinn, I sent you a message earlier! HR called me and said I can go back to work tomorrow. They even asked me to write an assessment report for a promotion. Did Miles force you to compromise on something?]
Yara was deeply anxious. She couldn't bear the thought of her best friend dropping the police report just to save her job.
Quinn didn't want to drag Yara down with all the ugly details. Since the compromise was already made, she'd carry the burden alone. There was no point making her friend feel guilty.
[Yara, I've already handled everything, so don't worry. I just picked up a short-term translation gig out of town for a few days. Could you watch the kids for me?]
Suspicious of the sudden out-of-town trip, Yara pressed: [Quinn, you went to Regency Bay today. Did Miles and Jade do something to you?]
[No, really, don't worry about me. I'm receiving the translation award next week. Jade apologized for stealing my manuscript, and I just don't have the energy to pursue it anymore.]
