Shawn’s focus was fixed on her injured arm.
“We need to get to the hospital and get that wound cleaned up,” he said.
Sabrina glanced at the cut. She was about to say it wasn’t necessary—she could just disinfect it herself once she got home. But then she noticed the other three were hurt too.
She nodded. “Alright. Let’s all go together.”
Turning to Burt, she gave a small nod. “Could you please let Samuel know what happened? Thank him for showing up when he did. As for these guys—lock them up somewhere for now. I’ll come back and question them tomorrow.”
At her words, Burt’s men—a group of burly enforcers—marched the red-haired thug and his crew forward, stopping in front of Sabrina.
“Where are the police?” Frank asked, frowning. It didn’t make sense that they hadn’t arrived after all this time.
“There’s a traffic jam,” Burt answered. “I’ve already told the officers everything’s under control here.”
Frank was silent, not quite convinced.
Just then, the red-haired thug who’d been standing with his head bowed suddenly looked up. He locked eyes with Sabrina, and a chilling, twisted smile curled across his lips.
Before anyone could react, he’d somehow slipped his hands free from the ropes behind his back. In a flash, he produced a razor-sharp blade and lunged straight for Sabrina.
She was closest to him, and completely unprepared. No one had expected him to break free and try to kill her, right in front of everyone.
“Watch out!” Shawn’s shout came from her side.
Sabrina instinctively leaned back, but the attack happened so fast—she had no chance of dodging the blade entirely.
“Hang in there, man. The ambulance will be here any minute!” Frank tried to sound reassuring, even as his voice shook.
Stella hurried over with a towel, pressing it firmly to Shawn’s wound to slow the bleeding, working quickly and quietly.
Less than five minutes after Burt took the thugs away, sirens wailed outside and the paramedics arrived.
At the hospital, doctors rushed Shawn into the ER. The cut was deep and required eighteen stitches, but through it all, he never once flinched or complained.
Frank stayed at his side, cracking jokes and doing his best to keep the mood light, while the others had their wounds treated. Soon enough, the four of them—patched up, bandaged, but alive—were sprawled out in the waiting room, grateful to have survived.
Thankfully, no one’s injuries were life-threatening.
As she waited, Sabrina pulled out her phone and sent a message to Bryce: It’s time to settle the score for tonight’s attack. This time, she would make sure Hector paid with his life.
