As Lyra stepped through the door, Delilah immediately pulled her to the sofa in the living room. "Your mother-in-law told me you're planning to take Pip on a trip around the world? Don't do it, Lyra. The baby is still so young, and the world is dangerous. If anything happens to him..."
"It will be fine, Mom. Andrea is coming with us, and Pip will have an entire security team protecting him."
Delilah desperately tried to talk her out of it, but seeing her daughter's absolute determination, she eventually gave up, settling for endless reminders to watch the temperature changes and be careful.
As the two of them were talking, Martha walked in carrying a gold-embossed invitation. "Ma'am, Lyra, an invitation just arrived."
Delilah opened it, scanned the contents, and looked at Lyra with a troubled expression. "It's for a major business banquet. Caleb was supposed to attend, but he flew out of town for business today and won't make it."
She slid the invitation across the coffee table. "Why don't you go in his place?"
"Sure."
It had been a long time since Lyra had attended a public social event. She immediately called her personal stylist and selected an elegant, sophisticated evening gown. After getting her hair and makeup done, she was ready to represent Fairchild Holdings.
Andrea drove her to the luxury hotel hosting the event.
The ballroom was a dazzling display of crystal chandeliers and designer gowns, packed with the city's most elite business figures. Lyra presented the Fairchild invitation at the door and walked in, immediately exchanging polite pleasantries with the host.
The host smiled and gestured toward the center of the hall, his tone respectful. "You arrived just in time, Mrs. Jameson. Mr. Jameson has been waiting for you."
Lyra's heart skipped a beat.
Waiting for her?
Rowan had absolutely no idea she was coming. She was only here as a last-minute substitute for Caleb.
The host clearly assumed they had coordinated their arrival. Lyra followed his gaze and spotted Rowan's tall figure in the distance, completely surrounded by a circle of executives eager to network. Taking advantage of the host turning to greet someone else, Lyra smoothly stepped away, retreating to a quiet, dimly lit corner to avoid the crowd.

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
