"So there is something." Willow scoffed, her smile chilling. "Mom, you'd better tell me. Wren doesn't just want a divorce anymore. If she gets her hands on whatever Vivian left behind, the Whitakers are going down with them."

Silence hung heavy on the other end of the line.

After a long pause, Lydia finally spoke, her voice hushed. "Before Vivian Vance died, she did have a document in her possession."

Willow's breath hitched.

"What document?"

"I don't know," Lydia replied. "But your father turned her study upside down looking for it."

Willow slowly closed her eyes.

She knew it.

Wren's mother wasn't just some forgotten relic of the past.

She was a drawn blade waiting to strike.

And if Wren got her hands on that blade, it wouldn't just be the Langfords bleeding.

The Whitakers would bleed too.

Lydia lowered her voice to a harsh whisper. "Willow, listen to me. Do not let Wren find whatever it is first."

Willow opened her eyes, staring at the brightening sky.

She suddenly recalled being thirteen, standing by the staircase while Wren shot her a look.

It was the look you gave a thief.

After all these years, Willow still despised that look more than anything else.

Why?

Why was Wren born with a legitimate mother, the Whitaker name, and the title of Mrs. Langford, while her dead mother still managed to leave behind a legacy that demanded attention?

Willow gripped her phone, her voice light as a sigh.

"I know."

After hanging up, she walked back to the bed and smoothed out the sheets Lawrence had ruined the night before.

The woman in the mirror had reddened eyes and a visible mark on her neck.

She stared at it for a moment, then smiled.

The mark was perfect.

At the very least, it proved Lawrence had been here.

Even if his mind was being scrambled by Wren, his body still came to her.

Willow picked up a tube of concealer but didn't cover it completely.

She merely dabbed at it, leaving the mark faintly visible.

Too obvious would look cheap.

Faintly visible made it the perfect silent testimony.

At 9:30 AM, Willow arrived at the Langford Estate.

Eleanor was just getting ready to leave for her checkup. Seeing Willow, her expression instantly softened. "Willow, what are you doing here?"

Willow walked over and linked arms with her, smiling sweetly. "I heard you had a checkup today, so I wanted to come with you. Lawrence is so busy with work, I was worried."
