After leaving Langford Medical, Wren didn't head back to Stellaris.
When she got into the car, her expression remained perfectly calm.
So calm that Julian glanced over at her multiple times.
As they drove out of the Langford Medical underground parking garage, the sky outside had already grown dark. The city lights flickered past the windows, casting fragmented, cold shadows across Wren's face.
Julian didn't ask where she was going right away.
It wasn't until they reached the first intersection that he finally spoke in a gentle tone. "Are we heading back to Riverside Apartments, or somewhere else?"
Wren looked at the address Mr. Clarke had just texted her.
"To the law firm," she said.
Julian's hands tightened slightly on the steering wheel.
"Right now?"
"Yes."
Wren's voice was soft, but there was no hesitation.
"Some things only get filthier the longer you drag them out."
Julian didn't press further, simply updating the GPS.
The drive was completely silent.
Wren kept her eyes on her phone.
The screen displayed her chat history with Mr. Clarke.
[Are you sure you want to file for a litigated divorce?]
[I'm sure.]
[The faster, the better.]
Those few short lines felt more like a sentencing than any heated argument ever could.
She had personally mailed the divorce papers to Lawrence.
She had left a shred of dignity intact back then.
She figured that if he was willing to sign it, at least the marriage could end quietly.
But he hadn't even looked at it.
Or rather, he couldn't even summon the patience to glance at it.
Just like over the last six years, he had never truly looked at all the hopes, grievances, explanations, and disappointments she had handed him.
Since he refused to look, she was done waiting.
When the car pulled up outside the law firm, Julian didn't kill the engine.
He looked over at her. "I'll wait for you down here."
