Before Wren could head back to Lancia, her phone rang.

It was Leo.

"Mom, are you still picking me up on Wednesday?"

Wren's heart melted.

"Of course."

Leo's voice dropped to a whisper. "Dad said you were really busy lately. I was worried you'd forget."

Wren stopped in her tracks.

Lawrence certainly knew how to twist things.

He had been an absent father for years, yet now he was using her schedule as a weapon against her.

But Wren refused to badmouth him in front of their son.

She simply said gently, "I will always try my best to keep my promises to you."

"Then I want to go to Penny's Diner."

"It's a date."

After hanging up, Wren stared at her screen and let out a long breath.

She was getting a divorce.

And she was learning how to be a mother who no longer sacrificed her own identity.

Both were incredibly difficult tasks.

But she was determined to figure it out.

That afternoon, Harrison Xander read Lancia's official statement.

Sitting in his office at the Xander fund, he flipped between the smear piece and the rebuttal, letting out a dark scoff.

His assistant stood nearby. "Mr. Xander, Langford's rehab project is still asking if our fund will participate in their next charity initiative."

"We're passing."

The assistant nodded. "Thorne Corp requested a meeting with you tonight."

Harrison paused.

"Clara Thorne?"

"Yes, sir."

Harrison leaned back in his chair, staring out the window.

He could easily decline.

But he remembered Wren's words from the night before—that she just wanted to move forward.

Suddenly, he felt like he needed to do the same.

"Set it up."

"Where to?"

Harrison picked up Clara's file and flipped to the last page.

Under her preferences, it read: *Zero tolerance for pointless small talk.*

Harrison smirked.

"Find somewhere quiet. And don't make it look like a blind date."

The assistant hesitated. "But it literally is a blind date."
