Chapter 478 A Daring Kiss
Chapter 478 A Daring Kiss
After all that trouble in the middle of the night, she was finally asleep. Fortunately, hex fever had broken.

Damian got up, went to the bathroom, dampened a towel with warm water, returned, and gently emped the sweat from her neck and back.
Her pajama top was damp through.
Isabelle opened her eyes slightly, looked at Damian, then closed them again and drifted back to sleep.
“Want a little water before you sleep more?” Damian whispered near her ear.
Isabelle slowly opened her eyes. Damian was already holding a cup with a straw her lips.
She took a few sips and settled back into sleep.
Once she was comfortable, Damian finally went to take a shower himself.
When he emerged from the bathroom, he carried the clean scent of steam and a quiet look of contentment.
He slipped into bed and wrapped his arms around her from behind.

Isabelle woke up close to eleven. Damian was occupied behind the closed door of his study. Lucas was downstairs in the living room, leisurely browsing the titles on Damian’s bookshelves.
There was no sign of Lynn.
“Morning,” Isabelle said.
“Morning,” Lucas replied.
Isabelle walked into the dining area. The housekeeper brought out breakfast for her from the steamer.
“Where’s Lynn?” Isabelle asked.
Lucas paused.
Probably because they were engaged, people naturally assumed he would know Lynn’s whereabouts.
He had knocked on her door earlier, but there was no answer. He’d tried the handle and found it locked from the inside.
He had called her phone. It rang for a while before she picked up.
She was awake but didn’t sound great. Her congested, weary voice came through the receiver.
“She’ll be down in a minute,” Lucas said, deflecting.
Isabelle nodded.
As if on cue, Lynn came downstairs.

“Morning” Lynn plopped into the chair opposite Isabelle.
“You’ve got a fever too?”
“Mhm.” She checked her own pulse. “Feel like I’m knocking on death’s door.”
Lucas glanced over at her.
The housekeeper brought Lynn’s breakfast. The two women began eating together in the dining room.
“You’re better now, but I caught a fever on your behalf.” Lynn eyed the empanada in hes plate and whispered, “Which ones are the spicy ones?”
She wanted to sneak one?
Isabelle discreetly glanced toward Lucas. “Aren’t you worried it’ll make you feel worse?”
“I’m a doctor. Besides, you only live once—no point depriving yourself.” Following Isabelle’s earlier glance, Lynn went to the kitchen and swapped her empanada for a larger, spicier–looking one.
“Let me ask you something. If you did like Lucas…”
“Stop right there. I don’t like him…”
Isabelle was taken aback. She hadn’t even finished, and Lynn was already hastily clarifying.
Lynn sat up straighter, looking slightly guilty, and took a bite of her empanada. “Keep going.”
“Hypothetically, I mean if you liked Lucas, but he had some emotional block he couldn’t get past, and you wanted to help him overcome it… would you choose to just support him from the sidelines, or would you try to walk through it with him?”
“Is that even a question? Walk through it with him, of course! If he’s stuck on something and can’t move forward, he must be hurting inside. But if someone is willing to face it alongside him, he might even feel… relieved.”
After her analysis, Lynn asked, “What is Damian stuck on? An ex? Or some kind of trauma?”
Isabelle didn’t answer directly. Instead, she asked, “Does Lucas have an old back injury?”
How would she know?
“Is it weird that I don’t know?”
“Not at all. We’re not at that stage yet.” Lynn lowered her voice.
Isabelle said, “You two are about to be married. It’s better to understand each other more deeply.”
“What difference does marriage make? He… he didn’t say a word when I wanted to call off the engagement. He clearly has zero expectations for this marriage. After we’re married, we’ll probably just lead separate lives. Why dig so deep?”
Lynn took another bite, savory juices escaping from the corner of her mouth.
“Mmm…” She wiped her mouth with a napkin, satisfied. “So good…”
Isabelle laughed. “Want me to pack some for you to take home?”

yes! Absolutely!” Lynn agreed wholeheartedly. “Next time you make something delicious, remember to tell me, make an extra portion for me
Lynn had an open personality, but mentioning Lucas‘ indifference during the engagement crisis still irritated her.
She was the daughter of the Murphy family. When had she ever been treated with such disregard?
Both families were well–matched socially and financially, neither side was marrying up or down in the world.
Lynn didn’t have particularly romantic notions about marriage either. As long as Lucas‘ character was decent and he wouldn’t fool around, she could accept the arrangement.
Apart from his short temper and sharp tongue, Lucas was actually okay.
He wasn’t like other wealthy heirs who partied excessively. His daily life was disciplined and routine. He was, on paper, a perfectly acceptable arranged marriage partner.
Most importantly, Lucas didn’t restrict her freedom. She could generally do as she pleased, and Lucas usually didn’t interfere.
Sometimes when her family called to check on her, even if Lynn wasn’t around, he would cover for her.
