The Billionaire's Heir I Never Knew Was Mine novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202: Why Is She Calling Me?

After the call ended, Sienna slowly lowered her phone and let out a long, quiet sigh. A bitter smile appeared on her lips as she gazed out the window.

Too many questions were running through her mind, all leading back to one person.

Had Zachary really managed to punish her father as well?

She didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but she couldn’t ignore the possibility either.

The only person who could give her the truth was Zachary, and she knew she had to ask him when he returned home.

"Mommy..."

Skylar’s voice gently pulled Sienna out of her thoughts.

She blinked and turned toward him, only to find him watching her with concern. His small brows were slightly furrowed, and his worried expression immediately made her realize how distracted she had been.

Although her conversation with Aunt Maya still lingered in her mind, Sienna quickly pushed those thoughts aside. She didn’t want Skylar to notice that something was bothering her. Smiling gently, she walked back over to him.

"Yes, sweetheart?" she asked softly. "Do you need something?"

Skylar shook his head.

"No, I don’t need anything." He studied her face for another moment before asking, "Are you okay, Mom? I called you a few times, but you didn’t hear me. I’ve seen movies where grown-up people do that. You must be thinking about something a lot."

His words made Sienna realize just how deeply she had been lost in thought. She hadn’t even noticed that Skylar had been trying to get her attention.

"I’m sorry," she said, smiling apologetically. "You’re right. I was thinking about something."

"Something important?"

"A little."

Skylar looked at her for a second before nodding wisely.

"Grown-up people really do think a lot."

His serious tone caught Sienna off guard, and she laughed softly. "Is that what you think?"

"Yes." He nodded again. "Daddy thinks a lot too. Sometimes I tell him something, and he says, ’Hmm,’ but I know he isn’t listening."

Sienna couldn’t help laughing harder. "So your Dad does that too?"

"Quite often." Skylar smiled innocently. "When he does it, then I have to repeat everything."

"Alright, I’ll take that into mind."

"So..." He tilted his head slightly. "Should I repeat what I just said?"

Sienna reached out and gently pinched his cheek.

"No, this time I was lucky that I heard every word."

"My mommy is smart..." Feeling relieved that she was smiling again, Skylar turned his laptop toward her. "Mom, I’m done with my editing."

Sienna looked at the screen and noticed that the editing software had already been closed.

"Already?"

He nodded proudly. "Yes. But I have to hurry downstairs now. My piano class starts in a few minutes."

"My little photographer is becoming a pianist too?"

"And I still have photography," Skylar answered matter-of-factly.

"Oh?" Sienna pretended to look surprised. "Do you ever get a day off?"

Skylar thought seriously for a moment. "I think... Sunday?"

She watched him until the elevator doors slowly closed and the display showed it descending to the lower floor. Only after it disappeared did Sienna let out a quiet breath.

Turning toward the staircase, she made her way down to the second floor. At the same time, she took out her cell phone and dialed Zachary’s number.

She hadn’t wanted to ask him about her father. She had told herself countless times that it wasn’t her concern anymore. Yet no matter how hard she tried to push the matter aside, the questions kept returning to her mind.

In the end, her curiosity proved stronger than her hesitation.

...

At Sterling Capital, inside the CEO’s office, Zachary was reviewing his schedule with Trevor.

"You need to cancel my scheduled trip to Star City," Zachary said as he closed the file on his desk.

Trevor looked at him in surprise. "Sir, the meeting is important. It’s best if you don’t miss it."

"I know." Zachary nodded calmly. "But I already promised Sienna I’d take her to the hospital tomorrow to have her stitches removed. You can reschedule the meeting to the next couple of days. If they can’t, ask them to arrange it so that I can attend it online."

Trevor hesitated for a moment. Although the meeting involved an important business partner, he also knew there was no point trying to change Zachary’s mind once he had made a decision.

"I understand, Sir. I’ll contact them and rearrange the schedule."

Before Zachary could respond, the ringing of his cell phone interrupted their conversation.

They instinctively looked toward the phone resting on the desk.

Zachary glanced at the screen, and the relaxed expression on his face disappeared almost immediately. His brows drew together as he stared at the caller’s name.

"Why is she calling me?" Zachary muttered under his breath, though it was loud enough for Trevor to hear.

Curious, Trevor discreetly looked at the phone screen. The moment he saw the name displayed there, his eyes widened in surprise.

Jessica.
