The Billionaire's True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 1014

"Sloane probably knows the cafeteria better than I do. I'm just a freshman, so I'm still figuring things out."

Claire didn't want to get tangled up in Julia's mess.

It was obvious that Julia had zero filter.

Her bluntness was practically guaranteed to give Sloane a stroke.

And considering Sloane clearly held grudges, Claire knew the older girl was already keeping a mental tally of offenses against her.

A senior like that would absolutely try to sabotage her later.

"I don't eat at the cafeteria that often, but I have been here for over two years, so I suppose I do know it a bit better."

Sloane made it clear that she was above eating dorm food.

She was someone with status; why would she spend her time in a cafeteria?

She preferred dining out. Sloane had tried every upscale restaurant near the campus that was worth its salt.

Naturally, she absolutely refused to step foot in those greasy spoons.

She found them dirty and unhygienic.

Whenever people invited her out, they knew better than to suggest a cheap joint.

After all, anyone could see Sloane came from money; taking her to a dive would just be insulting.

"No thanks. You and Whitney go ahead. I'm eating with Claire," Julia said, shooting Sloane down for the second time.

She only wanted to hang out with Claire.

Whitney was already losing her patience.

"Sloane, if she doesn't want to go, we'll just go by ourselves!"

Whitney's Solenian was heavily accented.

Unlike Julia, who was just blissfully ignorant, Whitney was a raging snob.

Even though they were exchange students in Solenia, her deep-rooted elitism was impossible to shake.

If Julia hadn't dragged her along on this wild goose chase for love, she never would have come.

If Whitney hadn't spent their entire childhood protecting her, that idiot Julia probably wouldn't have survived this long.

"Right, well, just ignore the price part and focus on the good food," Sloane corrected smoothly.

"I learned another phrase here in Solenia." Whitney wasn't going to let it go that easily.

She stared at Sloane, then flicked her gaze to Claire. "I believe it translates to: 'you get what you pay for.'"

Sloane was completely speechless. That makes perfect sense. I literally can't argue with that.

Claire caught the underlying snark, but this wasn't her battle, so she kept her mouth shut.

"That phrase doesn't apply to every situation," Sloane finally managed to retort.

Whitney looked highly skeptical.

Claire glanced at Julia.

She just thought this whole group was exhausting.

In a rare moment of brilliance, Julia suddenly clapped her hands. "Hurry up and go get your food! You guys are being way too loud!"

Claire mentally cheered. Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking!
