Pandora frowned deeply as she listened to the chaos consuming Latham's family.
When she heard that Cindy wasn't even Latham's biological daughter, she was left absolutely speechless.
"Claire knows her own mind. If she doesn't want bodyguards, then let it be."
"No matter how brazen the James family gets, they won't dare gamble with people's lives."
"And if they do act out of desperation, they'll end up turning on each other."
"However, about those retired female Special Forces you mentioned—if you can find talent like that, go ahead and pick out one or two."
"Just have them keep an eye on her from a distance so Claire never notices."
Edison silently praised the older woman's cunning. Experience truly was the best teacher.
"Got it. I'll start looking for two."
Edison worked fast. Thanks to his extensive network, he found two highly qualified candidates within a single day.
They passed his interview with flying colors. Edison briefed them that their target was a young woman, providing them with Claire's full daily schedule.
"Here's the deal. She actively refused protection, so you need to tail her from the shadows."
"My niece has razor-sharp instincts, so tread lightly."
The two female bodyguards exchanged a glance, privately wondering which spoiled heiress they were dealing with this time and how much of a headache she'd be.
Hating being shadowed was a common trait among ultra-rich daughters. They all screamed about wanting freedom.
But the moment a billionaire's daughter got kidnapped, things always ended horribly.
"We'll be sure to maintain a safe distance from the target," they promised.
The bodyguards were Yvonne and Chloe.
Both were lethal, efficient, and didn't waste time with unnecessary chatter.
Edison was incredibly satisfied.
"She's not high-maintenance at all. We're primarily worried for her safety..."
Edison gave them a rundown of the current situation with the James family and laid out his specific concerns.
Both women were highly satisfied with the terms.
Splitting the detail between two operatives while getting paid a premium proved their employer was deeply serious.
However, since Claire had studied medicine and practiced martial arts since childhood, her senses were incredibly sharp.
She spotted her tail on the very first day.
To be fair, she was driving, and they were driving right behind her all the way to the hospital entrance. It would have been harder *not* to notice them.
Still, Claire guessed they were the bodyguards Edison had hired, so she didn't blow their cover and simply let them follow her.
The hospital was safe enough anyway.
Knowing Mary was still around, Claire headed to Lance's room first.
Mary was well-rested by now. She had stayed behind to monitor his post-op condition; as long as Lance didn't spike a fever or develop an infection, and followed his physical therapy regimen, he'd be perfectly fine.
She wasn't particularly worried.
