"I actually won?"
Mina was still in a state of shock.
She let Cami pull her into a tight hug, her mind struggling to process the victory.
"Yes, Mina, we won! The prize money is all yours!"
Cami came from old money and didn't need the cash at all.
She had no intention of asking for a cut; she was just genuinely thrilled for her best friend.
With this kind of financial security, Mina would finally have the freedom to live life on her own terms.
Compared to Mina's euphoric celebration, Owen and Claire were incredibly mellow.
Owen knew full well that he owed his second-place finish entirely to Claire.
Not only had she pulled him out of a paralyzing panic attack, but she had also served as an impeccable tactical guide.
Without Claire, even if Owen had managed to overcome his fear, he might not have beaten Xavier.
After all, Xavier had been actively racing for years, while Owen had been totally out of the game.
"Real impressive, Owen. You drop off the map for two years and still manage to beat me. So what was all that pathetic hesitation about?"
"You were toying with me, weren't you?"
Xavier wasn't a sore loser, but he felt like Owen was intentionally humiliating him.
In Xavier's eyes, Owen's earlier reluctance had just been an arrogant mind game.
"I wasn't," Owen replied honestly.
"Beating you today was pure luck."
It was the absolute truth.
But Xavier wasn't buying it.
It only fueled his suspicion that Owen looked down on him.
It was just like his buddies always said—Owen never gave a damn about him. If he did, he wouldn't have gone after the woman Xavier loved.
"Are you really throwing a tantrum over losing?" Before Owen could defend himself, Claire stepped in, her patience running dangerously thin.
Their peaceful dinner had been ruined by this guy, and their quiet drive through the mountains had been completely derailed.
He had relentlessly pressured Owen into racing, and now that he had lost, he was throwing accusations.
Claire intentionally didn't mention Jocelyn Thorne, finding the idea of betting over a woman incredibly childish.
Regardless of whether this Jocelyn girl liked Owen or not, Xavier had absolutely no right to use her as a poker chip.
"She's right. Give me the book!" Owen demanded, immediately backing Claire up.
He had almost forgotten the entire reason he agreed to the race in the first place.
"Relax, you'll get your book. And about Jocelyn..." Xavier wasn't one to back out of a wager.
He figured this bet would finally bring their exhausting love triangle to an end.
"Stop right there!" Owen threw his hands up in a time-out gesture. "How many times do I have to say it before it gets through your thick skull? I don't have feelings for Jocelyn!"
Xavier scoffed in disbelief!
"You didn't have feelings for her, but you dated her anyway? Was it all a sick joke to you?"
"Did stealing my girl make you feel like a big man?"
Owen rolled his eyes so hard it hurt.
"You're the only idiot in the world who thinks Jocelyn Thorne is some sweet, innocent little angel."
