“Huh?”
Skye's brain totally short-circuited.
What did she mean, 'date casually'?
“Skye, we're only freshmen. What if someone way better looking comes along later?” Claire really didn't see the need to rush into romance.
This Yanis guy was definitely attractive, but he was also a magnet for attention.
In the short time they had been sitting there, three different girls had already walked up to ask for his number.
Could Skye really handle a guy like that?
Unless he was already completely obsessed with her, it would be an uphill battle.
Still, if Skye genuinely wanted to casually date around, no one was going to stop her.
“I'm just shallow and want him for his looks, I definitely don't care about his family's money.”
Skye was starting to get a little headache over the whole thing.
She wasn't sure if chasing Yanis was actually a good idea anymore.
But she had already added his contact info.
If Zara helped set up a few more group hangouts and they still didn't have any chemistry, she promised herself she'd let it go.
Seeing that Skye, despite her intense crush, was still keeping a relatively level head, neither Claire nor Zara tried to talk her out of it.
Lex didn't have a single romantic bone in her body, making it utterly impossible for her to understand Skye's predicament.
“Don't you think he's super handsome at all?” Skye couldn't understand Lex, either.
How could anyone be so immune to a hot guy?
“He's slightly better looking than average, I guess. But a pretty face doesn't put food on the table.”
Lex's intensely practical logic left everyone speechless.
“It doesn't put food on the table, but it makes the meal taste a whole lot better!” Skye fired back.
She quickly turned the tables on Lex. “Since you think good looks are useless, what exactly is your type?”
She didn't just ask Lex; she eagerly looked at Claire and Zara, too.
The heiress had a crystal-clear objective. “I'm going to find a man who is significantly more powerful than whoever Zoe Zeller ends up with!”
“As long as he's a bigger deal than the guy Zoe sets her sights on, I'm happy.”
Claire was genuinely curious. “But what if the person you actually fall in love with isn't as powerful as her choice?”
“A while ago, a friend of my grandfather's had a birthday banquet. His family is insanely wealthy, and the patriarch has three grandsons who are all total powerhouses.”
“Apparently, for days leading up to the party, Zoe practically begged my grandfather to take her as his plus-one.”
“Too bad my grandpa flat-out refused.”
“I was so thrilled. My grandpa was originally going to take me, but because she kept causing a scene about going, I ended up staying home too.”
“But missing out was totally worth it just to see Zoe get rejected.”
Claire thought that sounded suspiciously familiar. Was she talking about the Churchill family?
Didn't her generation of the Churchill family consist of exactly three grandsons?
Had Zoe locked onto her oldest brother, her second oldest brother, or Owen?
The older two were a bit more mature, so could it be Owen?
But Owen had a notorious reputation as a playboy. Wouldn't Zoe find that a bit too reckless of a gamble?
She didn't reveal to Zara that she was actually a member of the Churchill family.
When they finally circled back to ask Claire what kind of man she was looking for, she simply smiled and said, “I'll choose someone I genuinely love.”
