Chapter 279: Meeting with the Board of Directors, Part 2.–1
Alexander
I didn’t move a single muscle when Clara spoke, not one.

I sat with my back straight, one hand resting on the arm of the chair and the other on the table,
feigning a calmness that was slowly beginning to crumble inside. Because I didn’t know what the hell she had, and that was what was killing me.
Clara opened a folder in front of her, her movements slow, precise, too confident. She didn’t look
like a woman hesitating; she looked like a woman prepared to destroy someone.
“I want to start by clarifying something,” she said firmly. “This isn’t personal.”
Lie. Of course it was personal, all of this was personal.
“What I’m going to reveal here has to do with actions that jeopardized Boston’s expansion, the company’s financial stability, and the integrity of deliberately made internal decisions.”
No one spoke, not even Hale.
I kept staring at her. Trying to find a crack, a moment of hesitation. Something, but Clara was too
focused. Too cold.
“Over the past few weeks,” she continued, “there have been a series of delays, document alterations, and operational problems directly related to the Boston project.”
My lawyer barely turned his head toward me; I remained motionless.
Clara picked up a document and slid it across the table.
“Mr. Howard Greene was initially held responsible.”
Hale frowned.
“The manager,” he murmured.
“Exactly,” she replied. “He was fired on the grounds of negligence and possible internal sabotage.”
My jaw tightened slightly, just a little. But I felt it. Clara continued.
“However, after reviewing the documentation again and following a private conversation with Mr. Greene… I found significant inconsistencies.”
My fingers began to feel cold; she picked up another folder. The original documents sent from Boston didn’t match the altered files later submitted to management.

Hale took the papers and reviewed them. My breathing remained steady, outwardly, but inwardy! was starting to calculate scenarios. How much did she know? What exactly did she find?
Clara looked up and stared directly at me. I felt that sharp blow to my chest. Because her eyes no longer held any doubt. She knew.
“The digital records show modifications made from an authorized company terminal in/New York.”
My lawyer spoke for the first time.
“That doesn’t prove direct liability.”
“No,” Clara replied without taking her eyes off me. “Not on its own.”
Then she pulled out another document. And that’s when I felt the first real blow.
“But this does begin to.”
My back tensed slightly against the chair.
Clara passed several notes to Hale and the other board members.
Emails, shit… Shit.
I felt my pulse pounding in my neck.
I didn’t move my face, not yet.
Hale started reading, his eyebrows slowly furrowing.
“What is this…?”
Clara took a deep breath.
“Forwarded emails from Mr. Alexander’s account, related to maintenance authorizations, suspension of technical inspections, and deliberate operational delays.”
Hale looked up at me. And that look… That damned look… It wasn’t neutral anymore. It was surprise, distrust.
I slowly shifted in my seat, composed.
“That can be manipulated,” I finally said.
My voice was firm, thank God.
“Emails can be altered.” Clara nodded slowly. As if she had expected exactly that answer. “I thought about it.”
She opened another folder.

“That’s why I also requested the system’s internal history.”
My heart pounded.
She continued: “The authorizations were made from the computer assigned to your office.”
Silence… a heavy silence. Suffocating.
One of the lawyers began reviewing the documents quickly.
I looked at Clara. She met my gaze. And that’s when I understood something that made my
stomach churn. She could see me. She could see I was nervous.
Shit.
I barely glanced at Hale. The man was still reading. More tense every second.
“Alexander…” he said slowly. “What does this mean?”
“It means someone is trying to frame me.”
My response came immediately, perhaps too quickly.
Clara let out a short, humorless laugh.
“They framed you with this too?”

She then took out another sheet of paper, and when I saw the print… I felt the true emptiness open up beneath my feet.
