Chapter 290. Had to Do it
Chapter 290: I Had to Do It.
Ethan
The water falls on my back, hot, steady… but it doesn’t relax me… Nothing does. I stand under the
shower, my hands against the wall, my head down… and all I can see is that mark on Clara’s skin.
That damned mark.
I close my eyes tightly, but it doesn’t disappear… I see it again, her white back, the purple
spreading. The slight tremor of her body when I touched her.
I clench my jaw, the water keeps falling, sliding down my face… but inside I’m burning up. Because
it’s not just the mark, it’s what it means, someone touched her… Someone pushed her, someone made her fall. And that someone is still breathing like nothing happened.
I open my eyes abruptly, no. This isn’t going to end like this.
My life’s mission is to protect my wife, and someone has already dared to hurt her. Something hurts inside me, so I don’t think I can keep my word about doing nothing.
Later, I drive her to the office. Clara is calmer. Or at least she tries to be. I understand her to some
extent. She’s a woman who grew up surrounded by protection, and something like this has left its mark on her, and not just physically.
She walks beside me with her characteristic elegance… but I notice every little gesture. Every pause, every silence. Before she gets out of the car, I take her hand.
“I’ll be in my office,” I tell her. “I think I’ll be a little late today; I have a lot of work.”
She nods.
“Oh, that’s fine. Don’t worry… just work calmly and don’t forget to eat.”
“Okay.”
She leans in and gives me a kiss, a soft, necessary one. But when she pulls away… something inside me has already made a decision. I’m not going to sit idly by, not this time.
I see her enter the building, and as soon as she disappears… my expression changes.
I pick up my phone.
“Tell me you have it.”
“Yes, sir. I just sent you the location.”
I hang up and check the address on the screen, a remote area… Perfect. I start the car, the drive

Chapter 290 I Had to Do It
feels endless, every traffic light, every damn second… I feel the blood pounding in my temples, my
hands tense on the steering wheel.
My mind replays the same scene over and over, Clara falling… Clara crying, Clara saying, “I caused
it.”
I let out a bitter laugh:
“Bullshit”
I rev the engine…
The house appears in the distance, isolated, cold, just like him. I slow down, but at that moment..
A car stops in front of the entrance.
My eyes focus immediately, the door opens. And I see him… Alexander.
He was walking away as if nothing had happened, as if he hadn’t done a thing, as if he hadn’t
touched my wife.
My chest tightens, something inside me breaks completely.
I slam on the brakes, open the car door without even turning it off. And I run, I run straight toward
him.
“Hey!”
My voice booms through the air.
“You!”
He looks up. He sees me and for a second… Just a second… He seems surprised, but he quickly recovers. Too quickly, and that infuriates me even more.
“Until I see you…”
I don’t wait for a response, I don’t wait for anything. I step closer and throw the first punch, a direct
hit to his face.
My fist connects with his jaw with a sharp, loud sound. His head snaps back from the impact.
“So you never hit my wife again, you son of a bitch!”
Alexander takes a step back, clutching his face. But he doesn’t fall.
He looks up at me, and what I see in his eyes… It’s not fear, it’s rage.
“Are you done?”

That’s not enough. I lunge again. But this time he’s ready. He partially blocks the punch and shores
“You have no idea what you’re doing, Ethan.”
“Yes, I do.”
I try to hit him again, but he strikes back. His fist connects with my side, the air escapes me forja
second, but I don’t stop.
I grab him by the shirt and shove him against his car.
“You touched her!”
“She hit me first!”
My blood boils.
“And that gives you the right?”
I land another punch, this time on his cheekbone. His head hits the metal of the car.
“Don’t you ever go near her again!”
Alexander shoves me hard, enough to separate us. He’s breathing heavily, just like me.
“You don’t know the whole story.”
“I don’t care.”
I take a step toward him.
“You pushed her.”
“It was an accident.”
I let out a furious laugh.
“Sure.”
I attack him again, this time we both fall to the ground in the struggle. We roll, punches, shoves,
dirt, heavy breathing.
I throw another punch, and another, until he manage’s to turn and throw one back at my face. I
taste the metallic tinge in my mouth, but I smile.
“Is that all you’ve got?”
I punch him in the stomach, he doubles over. I take advantage and push him to the ground, my
hand closing around his collar.

Chapter 290 1 Had to Do It
“Listen to me carefully…”
My voice is low, dangerous. Very dangerous.
“If you look at her again… if you go near her again… I won’t let you get up.”
Alexander stares at me, fearless, unyielding.
“I’m not the enemy you think I am.”
I squeeze harder.
“To me, you are.”
I release him with a sharp shove and stand up. My breath comes in ragged gasps, my chest rising
and falling violently.
I look at him one last time.
“Stay away from my wife.”
I turn around… I walk toward my car. But even as I walk away… I know something with absolute
clarity. This… isn’t over.
My situation with Alexander is complex; this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
I know, at first it was just jealousy, damn jealousy. The kind that made me hate him without doing anything to him, but now… I know he’s a son of a bitch, one who did everything he could to screw over my wife, to the point of making her act like she’s not like herself. Clara isn’t a violent woman, but I’m glad she stood up for herself, that she dared to speak out, to expose him, and to slap him. If that son of a bitch had hurt her in that elevator or screwed up the project, I don’t know what
would have become of him.
