Chapter 136
The room fell silent.
Master Jace, who had been drinkinh, stopped mid-way. Then he let out a cold scoff.
“Are you kidding me?”. His sharp eyes locked onto the kneeling gang leader. “You’re telling me one man defeated over twenty of my men?”
The gang leader lowered his head even further. “Yes, Master Jace.”
“He fought all of us alone. He knocked everyone to the ground in less than a minute.” His voice trembled as he recalled the scene. “I’ve never seen anyone move that fast before. Every punch landed before we even realized what had happened.”
Master Jace stared at him for several seconds before letting out a mocking laugh.
“And you still have the nerve to stand here and tell me one man humiliated all of you?”
“I… I thought you should know the truth, Master.” The gang leader swallowed hard. “That man is extremely strong. If we return, he’ll probably be there again… and we can’t handle him.”
“You can’t handle one man?”
The gang leader remained silent, too ashamed to answer.
Master Jace narrowed his eyes.
“Hmm… Then he must be a boxer… or someone with serious martial arts training.” A faint smile slowly spread across his face. “Interesting.”
He turned toward the two silent men standing behind him.
“Such a man would make an excellent bodyguard.”
His gaze settled on the man standing to the left.
“Six.”
One of the cultivator stepped forward and bowed respectfully. “Yes, Master.”
“You’ll accompany them the next time they visit that neighborhood. If that man appears again, you’ll deal with him personally.”
“Understood.”
“And bring him back alive if possible.”
Six nodded. “As you command.”
Master Jace’s eyes turned icy.
“He interfered with my business. He has only two choices now.”
“Either he serves me…or he dies”
Meanwhile…

Inside Jessica’s bedroom, Jessica paced back and forth with her phone clenched tightly in her hand.
For over a week, she had been trying to reach Mr. Smith-the investor from the Langstone family–but every call had gone unanswered.
At first, she hadn’t thought much of it.
But after days of silence, an uneasy feeling had begun creeping into her heart.
Mrs. Morgan and Travis sat nearby, watching her anxiously.
Jessica dialed the number again. But the call failed. That made it the thirtieth attempt today.
She lowered the phone and exploded. “Where the heck is this Mr. Smith?” she shouted. “Why isn’t he answering his phone?”
Travis gulped. He had also been trying to contact Mr. Smith but hadn’t received a single response.
“He… he must be busy,” Travis said cautiously. “The Langstone family has been going through a difficult time lately.”
Jessica spun toward him.
“Busy? Since last week?”
She held up her phone.
“He hasn’t answered a single call for over a week! How is that just being busy?”
Mrs. Morgan stood and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Jessica, calm down. I’m sure he’ll call back.”
Jessica brushed her hand away. “Mom, don’t tell me to calm down! i should’ve started seeing my profits by now, but I haven’t received a single cent. And now I can’t even reach the man handling the investment!”
Travis forced an awkward smile.
“You know how influential the Langstones are. Maybe they’re delaying everything because of the family crisis.”
“No.” Jessica shook her head firmly. “I won’t calm down until I find him.”
She suddenly stopped pacing.
“Wait… Mr. Smith is one of the Langstone board members, right?”
Travis nodded slowly. “Yes”
“Good.” Jessica grabbed her handbag from the bed. “If he won’t answer my calls..then I’ll go to Langstone Enterprises myself. I will find out exactly where Mr. Smith is.”
Without another word, she stormed out of the room, leaving Travis and Mrs. Morgan exchanging worried glances.
Jessica was in her car, driving very nervously as she made her way there. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, knuckles turning white with each passing minute.
Doubts had begun to swirl in her mind like a gathering storm. What if Mr. Smith was just a scammer? The thought made her stomach twist uncomfortably. But she quickly shrugged it away, shaking her head firmly. “No way,” she muttered under her breath. “He couldn’t actually be a scammer when he’s from the Langstone family. They’re one of the most powerful names in the city. This has to be some misunderstanding.”

The drive felt endless, traffic lights blurring into one another as her mind raced ahead. By the time she pulled up to the towering glass building of Langstone Enterprises, her heart was pounding. She took a deep breath, smoothed down her clothes, and stepped out, clutching her handbag like a shield. The lobby was sleek and intimidating, with marble floors that echoed her hurried footsteps.
She stopped right in front of the receptionist desk, forcing a polite smile despite her anxiety.
“I am here for Mr. Smith. Is he in?” Jessica asked, her voice steadier than she felt.
The receptionist, a polished woman in her mid-thirties, frowned slightly and looked up from her computer screen. “Mr. Smith?”
Jessica nodded eagerly. “Yes, Mr. Smith. Is he in right now?”
The receptionist paused, her expression shifting to one of mild confusion. She shook her head slowly. “I don’t know who goes by that name.”
Jessica felt her heart vibrate with unease, a cold wave of panic rising in her chest. Before she could respond, the receptionist added, “Is he a worker here?”
“He is actually part of the board leaders,” Jessica replied, her tone growing more insistent.
“Ohh, that’s the reason,” the receptionist said, leaning back slightly. “I can’t know him because I am not obliged to know every board leader. I don’t even see some of them. But if you really want to know, you have to ask Ms. Natalie, the COO.”
Jessica immediately nodded. “Okay, okay, yes, I want to meet her.” maybe that would even be good. she would just asked her about the investment also.
The receptionist raised a hand gently. “Just that you can’t meet with him without any prior appointment.”
Jessica’s face flushed with frustration and urgency. “What? Please, you have to help me. This is urgent.”
