Chapter 810
“Are you talking to me?”
Hayley stopped and glanced at Sawyer.
A few minutes later, the two of them stood a quiet, empty corner.
Sawyer kept his eyes locked on her, his expression stiff and serious.
They had history.
The first time they met was when Hayley had dropped in out of nowhere at the Wetlands Park where they had been trapped. That very first encounter ended with him chopping off one of his fingers.
To this day, he was still missing it.
Later, he had picked a fight with one of her new followers and gotten sent flying with a single slap.
Between them, there was no shortage of bad blood.
And yet, she had also saved his life.
He still remembered that night clearly. He had followed Scott and her into the castle at the canyon. In the middle of the night,
his condition spiraled out of control.
Scott had been ready to put him down right there, but Hayley stepped in.
She had given him a detox pill.
The same person he had always seen as an enemy hadn’t taken the chance to finish him off or stand by and watch. She saved
him.
From that moment on, something shifted.
He realized she wasn’t heartless. They had just been on opposite sides.
When she was facing an enemy, she showed no mercy. But when she wasn’t, she was a pretty decent person.
Sawyer kept staring at her, his serious face slowly turning into something harder to read.
Just as Hayley started wondering if he was about to bring up old grudges, he suddenly spoke, as if he had finally worked up the
nerve.
“Do you still have any detox pills?”
“Huh?”
“The ones you gave us before. We’re out. If you’ve got more, could you spare a few?”
“Oh. That.”
Of all things, she hadn’t expected that.
She casually opened her inventory and spent a few points, pulling out ten detox pills.
“Here”
She tossed them to him without much thought.
She would be staying here for a few days anyway. Sawyer was technically her boss, so giving him a tew was just a way of building goodwill. They didn’t cost much anyway.

Sawyer stared at the handful of pills in his palm, his chest tightening as shock rolled through him.
“You’re just giving these to me?
“Why not?” Hayley shrugged. “We’re on the same side right now. If I’ve got them, you get them.”
Sawyer let out a short laugh.
For once, he didn’t seem nearly as irritating as usual. A thought crossed Hayley’s mind.
“Are you really planning to stick with Scott forever?”
“Yeah.”
She clicked her tongue. “You’ve seen how I treat my people. If I’ve got meat to eat, they’ve at least got soup. Sometimes I even go hungry just to make sure they’re full. Nobody gets to mess with them either. You won’t find another boss like me anywhere.”
Sawyer didn’t know what to say.
Right then, he noticed someone walking up behind her.
“And then look at that tyrant, Scott,” Hayley went on. “The guy’s a monster. If he says your finger’s coming off, then it’s gone. He won’t even stand up for his own people. He’s ruthless, cold, calculating, petty, and selfish. Why would you stick with someone like that?”
She was mid–rant when a gentle voice rang up behind her.
“Because I saved his life.”
Hayley froze. 1
Dressed in a sharp suit, Scott walked up to her with effortless elegance. His sharp eyes rested on her as he asked, “Any other questions?”
“Ha…haha…”
Hayley let out an awkward but polite laugh.
She had been running Ghost Mode all day, draining her mental energy dry.
No wonder she hadn’t sensed him coming at all.
