Chapter 872
Hayley slammed the throttle forward and shot across the sea, clearing the fighter jets‘ range in seconds.
She lifted her head and looked back at the aircraft pulling away behind her.
They gave up?
No way Scott suddenly went soft and let her go. Her gaze settled on the last helicopter, the one that looked different from the
rest.
Someone had let them go.
Hayley wasn’t the type to stand on ceremony. If someone let her go, she wasn’t about to question it. She just ran with it.
“Move!”
They drifted across open water for a full day.
There was no signal at all. Nothing but ocean in every direction, no towers, no relay points. There was no way to reach her league. By her estimate, they were already on the far side of the ocean.
It was way too far out.
She needed a signal tower. That was the only way to reconnect.
Near evening, her device finally picked up a weak signal.
“There’s a signal tower over there!”
Following the signal, she found a small survivor base on an island. The island was packed with foreigners, all kinds of faces, all kinds of backgrounds.
When they saw Hayley’s group, they waved them in with open enthusiasm, even using the signal they had to send out a
welcome.
Hayley didn’t rush ashore. She scanned them first with her mental sense. There were about 100 people on the island, only 6 or 7 Gifted, the rest all normal.
Once she confirmed they posed almost no threat, she brought her group in.
Even without her, the ten guards she brought along could handle them easily.
They were welcomed warmly.
After a brief exchange, she successfully sent a signal from the tower to Haylight League.
[We’re coming now!]
A reply came back from Liam.
She let out a quiet sigh of relief.
At the latest, he would be here by morning.
At that moment, a voice speaking Dreutsch called out, “Hayley, are you leaving as soon as your people arrive?”
Hayley turned and saw a blond, blue–eyed man walking toward her.
“Yeah. Thanks for taking us in, Tavian.”
Hayley’s Dreutsch was solid. Back in school, she had always ranked first in her class.

More importantly, she wasfi’t afraid to speak. Even if her pronunciation wasn’t perfect, it never stopped her from communicating.
“That’s a shame. Everyone here was excited to meet you.”
“Same here. We can stay in touch after this.”
“You’re right.”
Tavian Falkt was the leader here.
From what he told her, most of them had escaped from a cruise ship. They had been passengers when the outbreak hit mid- voyage. Countless people jumped into the sea trying to survive, and only this group made it.
At first, they lived off whatever they could salvage.
They picked through debris on the island, gathered whatever washed ashore from the ship, and slowly built a small survivor
base.
Using the island’s signal tower, Tavian kept sending broadcasts, drawing in more survivors over time.
They called this place Eden.
“What’s it like where you’re from?” Hayley asked.
“Bad,” Tavian said, shaking his head. “Coastal cities are completely overrun. I’ve contacted 21 survivor camps so far. Ten are gone. The remaining 11 say things inland are getting worse. Zombies keep evolving, and space is shrinking. They’re barely holding on.”
