Chapter 834
“”Yeah.”
Hayley nodded.
“Then we’re going with you,” June said. She glanced at the others, excitement written all over her face.
“Yeah, take us with you!”
“We wanna fight alongside you again!”
Hayley gave a small smile. “Fine, but you follow my lead. No exceptions.”
“Got it!”
The next day came in a blink.
At 8 a.m., Hayley and Griffin were already geared up, standing outside the building. The squad of elite Gifted soldiers Clark had assigned them had arrived and were waiting.
However, Clark himself still hadn’t shown. Without the man in charge, Hayley couldn’t just take his people and leave.
“Pretty sure Clark took my advice last night and didn’t get any sleep,” Griffin said, stretching.
Hayley turned and looked at him.
He immediately grinned. “Alright, alright. That one’s on me.”
Right then, a voice called out, brisk and apologetic.
“Sorry, I’m late!”
Clark came jogging over, hurriedly fastening his jacket as he ran.
For once, Whitney, who never seemed to have a kind expression, followed behind him with his coat in hand. “Slow down! Put your clothes on properly!”
“Why did you come out, honey? It’s cold,” Clark said, slowing to meet her. He took the coat from her. “I’m fine. Go back inside.”
“You never make anything easy for me,” Whitney shot back, giving him a look as she stepped in closer.
She fixed his messy clothes herself, fastening each button one by one.
Clark looked at her, and for once, his serious face softened completely. “I always knew I’ve got the best wife in the world. How did I get so lucky to marry someone like you?”
“Stop it. Say one more word, and I’ll hit you.”
“Even if you do, I’m still saying it. It’s the truth.”
With everyone staring, Whitney’s face flushed red. She raised a small fist. “Cut it out!”
Clark caught her hand and held it in his.
“Your hands are freezing. Why’d you come out here? You’re gonna make me worry. If you want to hit me, do it when I get back. I’ll let you hit me as much as you want. Now go inside. I’ll be back soon.”

Right there in front of everyone, Whitney seemed to forget all the eyes on them. The sharp edge in her gaze softened.
“You be careful. Come back safe.”
“Mission accepted, Mrs. Kinsman!”
Clark straightened up and gave her a salute.
Whitney looked at him, something shifting in her expression.
Then, right in front of everyone, she stepped forward and threw her arms around him.
The entire crowd was stunned.

Especially Clark’s men. Every one of them had their eyes wide, staring at their base director’s wife as if they had never seen her before.
In their minds, Whitney had never been easy to deal with.
Especially with Clark. She was always snapping at him, ordering him around, never giving him a decent look.
On top of that, she was extremely guarded around other women. If Clark so much as glanced at someone else, she would blow up on the spot, kicking up a scene that made everyone miserable.
The problem was, Clark always felt like he owed her. He indulged her in everything, and her temper only got worse over time.
But today, Whitney felt like a completely different person.
Everyone was stunned.
“So? Boss, not bad, right?” Griffin’s voice cut in.
Hayley turned to him. He had a faint, knowing smile on his lips. She raised her thumb and gave him a solid thumbs
-up.
Impressive.
“Ms. Reid, I’m here.” Clark walked over after finally parting from Whitney, still a little reluctant. “Sorry you had to see all that.”
