Hearing the word "divorce," Giselle froze in her tracks.

Immediately after, the shock in her eyes was replaced by deep suspicion and wariness.

She looked Nora up and down, clearly refusing to believe that this woman—who had shamelessly clung to Gideon for seven long years and schemed her way into the position of Mrs. Hayes—would give up so easily.

"Divorce?"

Giselle scoffed, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

"Don't play these disgusting little mind games with me, Nora. You even used Silas's will to force his hand so you could marry into the family. Now that Gideon is lying in a hospital bed because of you, you're telling me you want a divorce? Do you think I'm stupid enough to believe that crap?"

"But you better remember what you said today. You better put your money where your mouth is! Don't go running to Silas's grave later to cry and play the victim! Throwing down that vicious threat, Giselle didn't spare Nora another glance.

She turned on her heel and hurried toward the ICU with her bodyguards in tow, entirely unwilling to waste another second on this woman. Her only focus now was her unconscious brother.

Julian trailed at the back of the group.

Just as he was about to turn the corner, he paused, glanced back over his shoulder, and shot Nora a freezing look.

Nora understood immediately.

Julian was warning her not to divorce Gideon at this critical juncture.

He would never allow her to walk away unscathed and ruin the chessboard he had so carefully arranged.
