"Did you have fun abroad? Did you eat properly?" Gideon's tone was incredibly gentle, laced with endless indulgence.
Giselle leaned against his chest, tilting her head up with a spoiled pout.
"I did, but I missed you so much, Gideon. You were hurt so badly, do you know I had nightmares every night over there? I couldn't eat, I lost so much weight!"
Gideon carefully examined her round, fair face. Pinching her cheek lightly, he chuckled in agreement. The affection in his eyes practically overflowed.
"You did lose weight. I'll have the kitchen make all your favorites so you can recover."
"How is your injury? What did the doctors say?"
Giselle fired off questions like a machine gun, her eyes anxiously scanning Gideon from head to toe.
"It's completely healed. The doctors cleared me for discharge. Don't worry."
Julian, who had been quietly trailing behind Giselle, casually strolled up holding a suitcase.
Dressed in a perfectly tailored light gray trench coat, his face was a picture of refined elegance. Yet, when his gaze landed on Gideon's hand resting on Giselle's waist, an incredibly well-hidden, dark hostility flashed in his eyes.
"Giselle wouldn't stop talking about your back the entire flight. She barely touched her food."
Stepping forward, Julian smoothly extended an arm, his fingertips casually brushing Giselle's shoulder as he attempted to draw her out of Gideon's embrace and into his own space.
He wore a flawless smile, but his words dripped with provocation and possessiveness.
"I haven't left her side for the past two weeks in Paris, terrified she'd work herself sick worrying about you. Now that I've delivered her back to you perfectly intact, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief as her fiancé."
