The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 387

Franklin's sharp command caused the guards to step back.

They lowered their arms and stood to the side.

Given a moment to breathe, Nora leaned against the wall, gasping for air.

"Franklin... please, let me see him."

Nora stepped forward, gripping the old butler's sleeve. "My dad had a stroke, our company is bankrupt. Gideon hates me, he can take my life if he wants it, but tell him to come after me alone! Why is he destroying my family..."

Franklin looked at the woman who had once been the lawful Mrs. Hayes, his face etched with deep conflict and sorrow. He shook his head, his voice filled with resignation.

"Go back to your room. He is not doing well."

Franklin gently peeled her fingers from his sleeve. "Ever since Giselle passed, he's locked himself away. He hasn't eaten or drank anything, and he refuses to let anyone in. He doesn't want to see anyone right now. Especially you."

"Where is he?" Nora demanded stubbornly, refusing to back down. "If he won't come out, I'll go to him. Is he in the study or the master bedroom?"

Franklin looked at the unyielding fire in her eyes. He knew she wouldn't stop until she got an answer.

He fell silent for a moment. Then he turned and pointed a trembling finger toward a room near the staircase at the far end of the hall.

"He's not in the study or his bedroom. He's been locked in that room since last night."

Nora followed his gaze.

It was a white wooden door carved with intricate European patterns. Hanging from the doorknob was a faded cartoon rabbit charm.

Nora froze in her tracks.

Her eyes locked onto the charm, and it felt as if all the blood had been violently sucked from her veins. A deafening roar echoed in her ears.

She recognized that charm.

It was Giselle's favorite.
