Descending the dim hallway that led to the most distant area of the castle, Sasha and Pavel found themselves with severe distinctive interests. Pavel followed Sasha, who appeared very engaged and aware, with a face devoid of interest. D

“Do you even sense anything?” He questioned with his arms folded across his chest.

Sasha stopped walking, letting out a long sigh and balling her fists. While she was attempting to focus, her brother–who wasn’t even trying to be interested in any of it–was acting as though she had pulled him along.

“You are free to return. Not that I requested a bodyguard.” She mumbled and turned to give him a disapproving glance.

Pavel bit his lip and his eyes twitched. “Since when did you become so impolite to me?”

“I am not being impolite to you, brother. I am simply making the effort to drive you away. We have no idea who our opponents are. You might get hurt because you lack strength.” Muttering, Sasha looked ahead of the hallway, her eyes flaming with resentment. She was still unable to sense anything. Was someone actually inside the castle? What purpose did the red moon witches serve if there wasn’t someone? And the blood pearl’s essence on that hapless witch… What was that about?

Feeling insulted, Pavel cleared his throat and scratched the side of his neck. “I know I told you a lot of things at the beginning of all these but now… There is no need for any of these.”

Sasha gazed at him, her jaws clenched. “Please leave.”

“Stop! Just stop! you are speaking out of turn. You are utterly ignorant about all of this, and you have no desire to learn.” Sasha snapped and shook her head in disappointment.

Pavel gave her a glaring look. All he just wanted was his own material gain in all this. She was really let down.

“I have no desire to make light of any of these family matters. I arrived at the castle today, and I intended to leave tonight. I wasn’t prepared for your abrupt return.” Pavel twitched his lips and mumbled.

Sasha rolled her eyes and turned to leave him behind, vanishing into the hallway’s shadows. “I can’t believe him.” Her teeth chattered in a hiss.

The hallway was even darker. The walls thicker and had a faint sense of magic. This place was the most powerful magic region in the whole castle. At that very moment, Sasha became acutely aware of her destination. Her mother, Anastasia Novikov and aunt, Tiana Novikov, established a hallowed and sacred area in the castle. Since they were the only witches in the family they had a really tight bond. Their desire to perform spells without the effects affecting anyone outside the chamber led them to construct a room specifically for that purpose. That room… Even Sasha had never set foot in. The more she got closer, the more she felt it. The blood pearl. Immense dark energy emanating from it. The more she got closer, she could hear the wind’s whoosh and wisps and even felt the intense cold, almost giving her the impression that she was outside.

With each approaching step, her heartbeat quickened and a panic she had never experienced before started to pulse through her body. Her breath caught. Her dark flashing eyes highlighted the horror in them.

Grasping her clothing tightly, she took slow, deep breaths to manage her breathing. However, as she caught sight of the enormous doors at the end of the hallway, which appeared to be composed of living, crimson mist, leading to a different realm–she felt a sudden, powerful grip on her arm.

“Wha..!” She was pulled out of the hallway in an instant, into the bright, and pressed to the wall.

Those wide golden reptile–like eyes gave her a fierce, downward look. She was so shocked that she gasped in shock as she said his name.

“Lev!”

He shook his head, closed his eyes, and took a long breath. “Are you insane?”

Sasha blinked rapidly. Her body was starting to jitter due to their proximity. “What are you doing?” She gave him a hard shove by the chest and growled fiercely.

Lev opened his eyes, glaring at her. “What am I doing? You were about to…”

Sasha felt shivers run down her spine at that glare but quickly cut into his words. “I was about to what? The blood pearl was just…. you stopped me…!” Lev almost facepalmed himself “Are you unaware of the strange events taking place? Nikolai and Ophelia passing out during the strange wedding ritual, Vladmir losing his voice so abruptly, the crimson mist, the eerie door… This is no longer a conflict between my species and your sort. I could see it when I witnessed my sister faint due to a wedding ritual.”

Sasha blinked and slowly parted her lips, not knowing what to say. “You… What do you think is going on?”

Sasha nodded slowly, agreeing, though she hadn’t expected that statement. “Do you believe a Novikov is behind this?”

Lev pressed his lips. “I am not sure. However, my sister is now a member of this family. I will stop at nothing to keep her safe?

Sasha smiled, appreciating the remarks. She’d spent too much time avoiding Lev. Now that their objectives aligned, avoiding him would not be simple.

“I will try to convince Nikolai to bring up a family event.” Muttering to herself, she inhaled deeply as she felt the blood pearl energy essence disappear. “It has vanished.”

Lev glanced towards the hallway’s direction. “Shall we investigate?”

Sasha was taken aback. “But it wasn’t.. until I was closer that I could feel it. What if…?”

“Even after I pulled you outside, you continued to sense it. Up until now.” Lev muttered, feeling determined.

Sasha grudgingly gave a nod. “Very well then.” She proceeded into the corridor, with him after her with caution.

As soon as he saw her go closer and closer before vanishing into the darkness of the hallway, he stopped walking and his lips curled into a sly smile.

Sasha, meantime, stepped closer and was taken aback to discover that the hallway was completely empty of energy and completely normal. Honestly, nobody would have believed her if she had told anyone what she had

witnessed. Breathing deeply, she made all the fire torches in the hallway glow with her magic.

“You…”

Sasha let out a loud cry and grabbed her chest to catch her breath.

Lev gave a tense laugh. He followed her closely. “Pardor me. I apologize if I startled you.”

“No… No.” Sasha whispered between breaths. “I was already startled.”

Lev nodded and tilted his head, furrowing his brows. “Very well then.”
