Chapter 502
Chris’s gaze stayed on her face.
“Scroll up.”
Winter did as he said. She swiped down with her thumb, scrolling higher through the gallery. But even after more than a dozen swipes, everything she saw was still photos and videos of herself.
She had just started to frown when a hand reached over.
The fingers were long and well-defined, but the back of the hand was covered in cuts of all sizes.
His fingertips swiped across the screen twice, quick and precise.
The screen stopped right on one of Richie’s videos.
Chris looked at her.
“Why are you so impatient?”
Winter said nothing.
He led her over to the sofa and sat down with her. She quietly watched the videos while he picked up the documents on the table and started reading.
Dominic suddenly felt like a third wheel. He caught Gavin’s eye, and the two of them slipped out of the room one after the other, careful not to do anything that might upset Winter and make her leave. Without a word between them, they left the door open.
Gavin had just reached the doorway when he noticed Wendy standing outside Winter’s room.
The moment she saw him, she froze. Then her face fell, and she gave him a lazy eye roll before turning to walk back into the room.
Gavin looked away.
Last night, when he had told her they weren’t the same kind of people, she had given him that same slow, unimpressed eye roll and gone upstairs without saying a word.
Dominic noticed the look between them, and a grin spread across his face. “Something going on there?”
Gavin’s cold face showed no emotion.
“No wonder Mr. Xander always tells you to shut up. If you can’t say anything worth hearing, don’t say anything.”
Years ago, Chris had saved Gavin’s life at the border, and Gavin had stayed by his side ever since. But his loyalty only belonged to Chris and to the woman Chris loved.
Everyone else, even the late Mrs. Xander Sr. in her day, had no claim on him. He didn’t take orders from anyone else, and he certainly didn’t care about giving anyone else face.
Dominic had known what Gavin was like for a long time, so he wasn’t offended at all. Instead, he teased him.

“Fair enough. With a personality even colder and harder than Chris’s, it’d be a miracle if any woman liked you. You were born to be single.”
