The Wrong Brother’s Temptation
Chapter 153
Sienna
The drive took almost forty minutes.
Jane, sensing the mood, launched into an unprompted account of a date she’d been on last week with some guy from her chemistry study group.
“And then,” she said, taking a sharp turn, “he asked if I wanted to see it together sometime. The exact movie he’d just spent forty-five minutes describing to me scene by scene.”
“What did you say?”
“I said I was extremely busy for the next several years,” she said. “It felt like the kind thing to do.”
I laughed, and some of the tension in my shoulders eased, which had probably been her intention the whole time.
“It’s going to be fine,” she said, glancing at me at a red light. “Whatever the doctor says. We’ll figure it out. We always figure it out.”
I stayed silent and stared out the window. After a while Jane glanced at me sideways.
“You’re thinking about him again.”
“I’m thinking about the fact that my own body betrayed me.”
“Same thing at this point.” She softened.
“Hey. We’ll figure it out. And for what it’s worth… he did save you from creeps so not like he thinks low of you. You told me the others couldn’t even scent it properly but thought you were weak and available. So, he knows it’s not under your control.”
I sighed, my thoughts in a jumbled knot.
“Thank you,” I said. “Even if I want to strangle you from time to time.”
“Obviously,” she said, like there’d never been any other option, and pulled back onto the road.
I didn’t answer. Instead I told her about the Peter Rabbit book, about how easily Connor had agreed to take me to the cottage, about the height chart and the rewritten fairy tales and the quiet way he had said I was the first person he’d ever brought there.
Jane nearly swerved.
“He took you to his dead mother’s secret cottage and gave you her favorite book and you’re still pretending this is just fake dating? Sienna. Be serious.”
“It is fake.”

“Uh-huh. And I’m the Queen of the Southern Territories.” She shook her head, grinning. “He is so far gone it’s almost sad. Almost.”
“Yeah, of all the hot and confident girls that throw themselves at him, he would choose this freckled girl!” 1 shook my head. “He and Aaron have always raced to everything. This is one of them. Don’t read too much into it”
I said to her but I might as well have been telling that to myself.
“You think so?” Jane asked.
“I know so. Connor told me that the first day he came up with this fake dating offer”
Jane gave me a thoughtful look that told me she wasn’t convinced but thankfully she didn’t push.
A few minutes later, we pulled up near a clinic in a modest, modern building tucked between a café and a small bookstore.
Jane gave my names at the reception desk, and after a short wait we were shown into a clean, sunlit consultation room.
The doctor turned out to be a woman probably in her forties with silver hair pulled back and reading glasses pushed up on her head. Her name plate said Dr. Aldana.
She smiled as we sat down. “What brings you in today?”
I opened my mouth but nothing came out.
“She’s having a scent problem,” Jane said helpfully, when the silence stretched a beat too long.
“A scent problem,” Dr. Aldana repeated without judgment and began scribbling on her notepad.
“It’s…” I tried again. “It’s a wolf thing. My wolf is late-blooming. And apparently now it’s….” I gestured vaguely at myself, “…doing something with scent around a specific person.”
Dr aldana furrowed her brows and Jane blurted out.
“Basically her late-blooming wolf decided that the best way to catch up was to turn you into a walking aphrodisiac for one specific man only.”
“Jane!!”
“What?” she looked at me defiantly. “That’s accurate”
Dr. Ellis blinked once, then looked at me with gentle curiosity.
“Is that the case, Miss Sienna?”
My face felt like it was on fire. “I… yes. Sort of. I only found out last night. I didn’t know my body was doing that.”

“Can you describe the specific circumstances,” Dr. Aldana said, mercifully redirecting, “under which you’ve noticed this?”
I answered as best I could, stumbling over words whenever the topic circled back to the scent. Jane occasionally filled in gaps with far too much enthusiasm.
Dr. Aldana listened to all of it without a flicker of surprise, taking notes, and when I finally trailed off she set her pen down and leaned back.

“This is more common than you’d think,” she said. “Your wolf is coming online later than average, which sometimes creates a hormonal lag. Instead of the gradual rise in pheromone production most people experience over months, your body is releasing large concentrated bursts of invitation scent whenever it registers a compatible, high-ranking male, particularly one you’ve already formed some kind of bond with.”
She looked at her notes. “In essence, your wolf believes it’s behind schedule, and it’s trying to accelerate the mate selection process to compensate.”
Mate selection process?
But I wanted me and my wolf to choose Aaron not Connor.
I stared at her. “So I’m broken.”
“You’re not broken. You’re late, and your wolf is impatient.” She smiled slightly.
“It’s a known pattern,” she said. “Not the most common one, but not unheard of either. The good news is it’s very manageable.”
“How manageable?” Jane asked, leaning forward eagerly.
