The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 832

"Hamilton, you..."

"I'm not here to steal Kristin away from you."

Natalie pressed her lips together, utterly bewildered by Hamilton's motives.

"Kristin is my daughter. I just want to spend some time with her occasionally. Is that really too much to ask?"

Natalie rubbed her aching temples. She simply didn't have the energy to fight with him right now.

"Please leave. I need to rest," Natalie said, turning toward her bedroom.

"Marrying Marico is going to be the biggest mistake of your entire life!"

"Whether it's a mistake or not is none of your business."

"Natalie, Marico isn't worth your love. You should have realized that from this latest stunt of his!"

*This latest stunt?*

Natalie whipped her head around to stare at him. Did he know Marico had been arrested?

The incident had just happened tonight. How could he possibly know?

"If something happens in Orenth, big or small, I'm always the first to know. Especially since he managed to offend Xavier Prescott, the boss of the Serpent Syndicate. Xavier and I happen to go way back."

"What exactly are you trying to say?"

"I can help him. All you have to do is beg me."

Natalie took a deep breath. "Marico is innocent. I don't need to beg anyone. The police will clear his name on their own."

"You actually think he's innocent?"

"I believe in him."

"Heh. We both know what kind of scumbag Marico really is. Throw a starving dog into a butcher shop and tell me he won't take a bite!"

If it was really him, this wouldn't be the first time he had gone after Marico. Theodore had kept quiet in the past because Marico had been the one in the wrong first. But now that Marico and Natalie were married, Hamilton's refusal to let it go—and his active attempt to send Marico to prison—crossed a serious line.

Theodore lit a cigarette, his expression grim as he took several long drags. He pulled out his phone and dialed Hamilton's number.

The conversation was brief. Theodore hung up first.

"He denies having anything to do with it."

Since Hamilton refused to confess, Theodore couldn't push the issue without being the one to sever their ties. After years of friendship, he was reluctant to let things deteriorate that far.

"The real issue now is whether or not he actually slept with those women. If he did, there's nothing I can do to save him," Theodore said, rubbing his forehead.

"Natalie believes he didn't," Penelope pointed out.

Theodore sighed in frustration. "She might believe him, but I certainly can't."

Penelope fell silent. Considering Marico's extensive track record of bad behavior, it was incredibly difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt.
